The fountain features a circular granite basin seven meters in diameter, with an elegant bronze bowl rising from the center. The composition is decorated with sculptures of young people representing the region's traditional occupations: fishing, agriculture, and music. Powerful jets of water, spraying from both the center and the base of the bowl, create a dynamic and refreshing effect.

The site is located right next to the historic town hall and is surrounded by 18th-century buildings with ornate facades. Today, the fountain in Kościuszko Market Square is more than just an architectural element; it is a hub of activity for locals and tourists alike, and a perfect place to relax amidst city cafes and shops.

History & Facts

The history of this elegant structure began in 1890. Its appearance in Białystok marked the launch of the city's first public water supply system. Originally, the fountain was much simpler, consisting only of a water basin. The characteristic bronze sculptures on the central bowl were added in 1900, representing fishing, music, and agriculture.

The city itself, located in Poland, has a long history: it was founded in the 14th century, and its golden age is linked to the activities of Hetman Jan Klemens Branicki. The neighboring town hall, built between 1745 and 1761, is also part of this historical heritage, though over its long life, it has served as market stalls and even a fire station.

In the early 21st century, specifically between 2000 and 2002, the fountain underwent a complete reconstruction. During the work, the basin was replaced, the technical components were updated, and the sculptures were restored. The fountain's modern appearance is an exact reconstruction of its late 19th-century look, allowing us to see it exactly as its creators intended over a hundred years ago.

Time Needed

To simply see the fountain and snap a few memorable photos, 15–20 minutes will be sufficient. It is an ideal spot for a short break while exploring the central landmarks.

If you plan to take a leisurely stroll across the entire Market Square, visit the Podlaskie Museum in the town hall building, and relax at one of the sidewalk cafes with a view of the water, allow 1 to 1.5 hours for your visit. The evening is particularly conducive to a longer stay thanks to the cozy atmosphere and lighting.

Working Hours

The City Fountain is a public attraction and is open to visitors 24/7. This allows you to admire its water cascades in the morning sun or late at night under the city lights.

According to official data, access is open daily without breaks or days off: Monday – Sunday, 24 hours a day. It is worth noting that the artistic lighting usually operates after dark, creating a special atmosphere for evening walks.
