Imagine the chance to take a short journey back in time simply by stepping into a wooden car. The Aleksotas Funicular is more than just a mode of public transport; it is a living historical monument carefully preserved in the city of Kaunas. This unique engineering structure connects the left-bank part of the city with the top of Aleksotas Hill, offering guests of Lithuania an authentic early 20th-century experience.

This 132.9-meter-long cable railway conquers a steep incline of up to 29.5 degrees. The funicular is considered one of the oldest in Europe and the only one in the Baltic region to have preserved its original appearance. Kaunas is proud to be the only city in the Baltic States where two such historical lifts are still in operation.
The cars themselves are of particular value, crafted from fine oak and equipped with wooden benches. The original traction equipment, installed back in 1935, continues to work reliably, lifting passengers to the top in mere seconds. This is a place where technical heritage meets the magnificent aesthetics of interwar modernism.
