Džem'pub

About

If you're looking for the place where the heart of the city's nightlife beats, Kaunas has something special for you. Džem'pub is a legendary nightclub and pub comfortably tucked away on the fifth floor of a historic building right in the center. This location in Lithuania has long been a cult favorite for those who appreciate an informal atmosphere and honest energy.

The establishment is famous for its open terrace, which offers stunning panoramic views over the city's rooftops. Despite its laid-back nature and famous "sticky floors" (which have become a sort of quality mark for a real student bar), the pub maintains a high rating among visitors thanks to its sincerity and affordability.

Originally conceived as a jazz space, Džem'pub has evolved over time into a multi-functional venue. Karaoke enthusiasts, live rock concert fans, and those who just want to spend the evening at a long wooden table in the company of old and new friends all feel equally at home here.

Contacts

If you would like to check the event schedule or book a table for a large group, you can contact the management directly. Džem'pub actively keeps in touch with guests via social media and by phone.

What to Do

At Džem'pub, everyone will find something to their liking. The main draw of the venue is the live concerts: both emerging bands and recognized stars of the Lithuanian scene perform here. On Thursdays, the space fills with laughter during open mic nights, where anyone can try their hand at stand-up comedy.

For those who love to participate, there is karaoke, which is incredibly popular with the international Erasmus student community. The pub's long communal tables are practically designed for making new friends, discussing startups, or simply enjoying affordable drinks in plastic cups, which only adds to the place's specific drive.

Don't forget to check out the panoramic terrace. It's the perfect spot to relax with a view of the city lights after some energetic dancing to DJ sets. Whether it’s a disco night or a cozy acoustic evening, the atmosphere here is always filled with friendliness and a sense of freedom that’s hard to find in pretentious clubs.

Getting There

Located at Laisvės al. 59, Džem'pub is right at the epicenter of the city's activity. The easiest way to get here is on foot, strolling along the city's main pedestrian artery — Liberty Avenue (Laisvės alėja). From the famous Žalgiris Arena, it’s only about 800 meters, which takes no more than a pleasant 10–15 minute walk.

For those using public transport, the "Laisvės al." stop is your landmark. The main bus and trolleybus routes connecting the center with other districts pass through here. After getting off, simply find building number 59 and head up to the fifth floor.

If you're planning a visit in the evening, it’s most convenient to use a taxi or a ride-hailing app. Keep in mind that parking in the city center is limited and often requires payment, so a personal car is not the most practical option for a night out in this area.

History & Facts

The building that hosts loud parties today has an intriguing industrial past. In 1966, it was home to the Mada factory sewing workshop. At that time, it was one of the most modern and notable public buildings of the post-war period, situated right next to the Polytechnic Institute campus.

Džem'pub itself opened its doors about 19 years ago. Its founder, Kęstutis Narušas, originally dreamed of creating a cozy jazz club. However, over time, the format evolved: thanks to DJ Giedrius Ibianskas, the venue transformed into a truly democratic hub for students and music lovers of all genres, while still retaining its unique soul.

Interestingly, Džem'pub was at the forefront of the Lithuanian comedy boom. In the 2010s, it began hosting the first stand-up nights, which quickly became popular. The club successfully weathered economic crises by focusing on free parties and live music, which only solidified its status as a legendary spot.

Time Needed

To fully soak up the atmosphere of the venue, a quick "30-minute drop-in" won't be enough. It's best to set aside 3 to 5 hours for your visit. This gives you enough time to slowly enjoy drinks on the terrace, listen to a band, or join in on a karaoke marathon.

If you plan to catch a specific concert or a themed party, it's better to arrive when the doors open to snag a good spot. On weekends, many guests stay until closing at 4 AM, immersing themselves in the rhythm of the nocturnal city until dawn.
