Perched on a scenic rocky cape in southern Portugal is the Ponta do Altar Lighthouse—a small yet incredibly photogenic structure that has become one of the symbols of the coastal area near Portimão. It is not just a navigational aid, but a place with a special energy where the Atlantic Ocean meets the steep shores of the Algarve.

The architecture of the lighthouse is quite unusual: it features a square tower only 10 meters high, attached to a snow-white, single-story keeper's house. Because of this design, it is often affectionately compared to a traditional rural school. Despite its modest size, the lighthouse remains active and serves as an important landmark for vessels entering the port.
\nLocated within the parish of Ferragudo, the Ponta do Altar Lighthouse stands on a plateau that has been used by humans since prehistoric times. Although a modern concrete communication tower now stands next to the historic building, it does not spoil the overall impression of the visit. Tourists value this spot for the chance to see incredible sea panoramas and feel the power of the ocean wind.
