Overview

Ussuriysk greets travelers with a pronounced continental climate. This means you can expect four distinct seasons: a freezing and mostly dry winter, a warm and more humid summer, and colorful transitional periods in spring and autumn. Be prepared for significant temperature fluctuations throughout the year!

Winter in Ussuriysk is quite harsh, with average January temperatures around -14°C and very little precipitation. Spring brings a gradual warming, and by May, the average temperature reaches +13.6°C. Summer is the warmest time of year, especially in July and August, when the thermometer stays above +20°C on average (July +22.4°C, August +21.7°C). The majority of the annual precipitation falls during the summer months, with August standing out as the wettest month with the highest number of rainy days. Autumn is characterized by a gradual drop in temperature and decreasing precipitation, preparing the city for the upcoming winter season.

During this period, nighttime temperatures can drop to an average of -19.9°C, while daytime highs rarely rise above -8.1°C. The warmest month is July, with an average temperature of +22.4°C. Precipitation

Precipitation in Ussuriysk has a pronounced seasonal character. The highest amount of rainfall occurs during the summer months, while winter, conversely, is the driest period. The wettest month is August, with an average of 6 mm of precipitation and about 17 days with precipitation. Meanwhile, January, February, and December are the driest, with minimal precipitation (statistically 0 mm) and only 2-3 days of precipitation per month.

The summer months, from June to August, bring the bulk of the annual moisture. In June, it rains for an average of 14 days (3 mm of precipitation), and in July, for about 12 days (4 mm). Precipitation during this period falls mainly as rain. In spring, from March to May, the number of rainy days and the volume of precipitation gradually increase, preparing the transition to the wet summer. For example, in May, there are already about 11 days with precipitation (2 mm).

In winter, from December to February, precipitation in Ussuriysk is extremely rare and sparse. Given the consistently negative average temperatures (from -14.0°C in January to -8.9°C in February), any precipitation that falls is most likely light snow. Transitional autumn months, such as September (2 mm, 9 days with precipitation) and October (2 mm, 7 days), show a gradual decrease in rainfall. In November (2 mm, 6 days with precipitation), with an average monthly temperature of about -1.5°C, precipitation can fall as both rain and snow.

Packing Tips

When planning a trip to Ussuriysk, it is important to keep in mind its humid continental climate, which ensures a distinct change of seasons. The key to a comfortable trip in any weather is layering your clothes. This approach will allow you to easily adapt to temperature changes throughout the day. And, of course, don't forget comfortable shoes for walking around the city and its surroundings, as there is plenty to explore here!

If your trip is planned for the winter months (December to February) or the cold shoulder seasons (November, March), be prepared for significant frost. Average winter temperatures range from -9°C to -14°C, and night temperatures can drop even lower. You will need: very warm outerwear (a down jacket or parka, preferably windproof), insulated trousers, thermal underwear, and wool or fleece sweaters. Don't forget warm socks, a hat, a scarf, and mittens or gloves. Although winters in Ussuriysk are freezing, they are usually dry, so heavy snowfall is unlikely, but protection from the cold and potential wind should be your main priority.

The summer months (June to August) in Ussuriysk offer pleasant warmth, with average temperatures ranging from +17°C to +22°C. Light natural fabrics like T-shirts, shorts, and dresses are ideal for this time of year. However, summer is also the wettest season, especially August, when the number of rainy days reaches its peak. Therefore, be sure to pack an umbrella or a light waterproof jacket. During the transitional spring (April, May) and autumn (September, October) months, the weather can be changeable: warm during the day and noticeably colder by evening. Layering will come in handy here as well: a light jacket, a sweater, and jeans. On sunny days, especially in summer, don't forget sunscreen and a hat.
