Longjing is located in a temperate monsoon continental climate zone, typical of the northeastern regions of China. The annual temperature cycle in this region is quite contrasting. The most favorable time for tourists to visit is from May to October. During these months, Longjing enjoys its most stable and sunny weather, allowing visitors to fully enjoy the natural beauty of Jilin province without having to constantly adapt to the whims of the elements.

The temperature profile of Longjing exhibits classic continental climate characteristics with sharp transitions. Winter in this corner of China is harsh and long: in January, the average nighttime temperature drops to -12°C, and during certain periods, frosts can reach -20°C and below. Daytime temperatures in the winter months also often remain below freezing.

With the arrival of spring, the air warms up quite quickly. While it is usually around +9°C during the day in March, by May the thermometer confidently passes the +21°C mark. Summer in Longjing is moderately hot: the peak occurs in July with an average daily maximum of around +27°C. Thanks to the nighttime coolness (around +19°C), the summer heat is much easier to bear here than in the southern provinces.

Autumn brings a pleasant transition from summer heat to winter freshness. September in the city sees comfortable daytime highs of +22°C, but by November, daytime figures drop to +6°C. An important feature for tourists to remember is the diurnal temperature variation: the difference between day and night can be up to 15–20°C, which requires a careful approach to choosing your outfit.

The precipitation pattern in Longjing follows the monsoon rhythms typical of northeastern China. The annual rainfall ranges from 450 to 700 mm, with about 60% of all moisture falling during the three summer months. The wettest period is August, when precipitation reaches an impressive 194.6 mm, often in the form of short but intense downpours.

In contrast, winter in Longjing is considered an extremely dry season. From December to March, the sky over the city usually remains clear, and precipitation is minimal—for example, in December, it is only about 6.4 mm. Snowfalls are infrequent, but in January and February, they can cover the ground with a neat layer of snow, creating a picturesque winter landscape.

Spring and autumn are characterized by moderate humidity and occasional rain, making them very comfortable for walking. On average, the city has about 80–100 days of precipitation per year. It is worth noting that summer rains are often accompanied by thunderstorms, so having an umbrella from June to September is essential for a comfortable stay.

Preparing your wardrobe for a trip to Longjing depends directly on the season, but the layering principle is always relevant. For a winter trip to this region of China (December–February), high-quality thermal underwear, a down jacket, a warm hat, and gloves are vital. Since winters here are dry but windy, clothing should provide reliable protection against the cold.

In summer (June–August), it is best to opt for clothes made of light natural fabrics, but be sure to bring an umbrella or raincoat—downpours occur frequently during this time. Also, don't forget sunglasses and sunscreen, as solar activity can be quite high on clear days. For evenings when the temperature drops noticeably, a light windbreaker or jumper will come in handy.

Regardless of the time of year, the most important item in your suitcase should be comfortable shoes for long walks. In spring and autumn, the optimal set would be jeans, sneakers, and a mid-season jacket.
