The East Slovak Museum is not just a repository of antiquities, but one of the oldest and most significant cultural institutions that Slovakia is proud of. Founded in 1872, it has become the main guardian of the history, art, and traditions of the country's eastern region. The museum is housed in a magnificent early 20th-century Neo-Renaissance building, which itself catches the eye of tourists on Peace Marathon Square (Námestie Maratónu mieru).

The main treasure that draws travelers from all over the world to Košice is the famous "Košice Gold Treasure". It is one of the largest finds of gold coins in Europe, including nearly three thousand ducats and medals. But the museum is interesting for more than just gold: its collections cover a vast period from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages, presenting unique archaeological finds and items of folk life.
Strolling through the museum's halls, you feel as if you are traveling through time, discovering the cultural code of Eastern Slovakia. Here, classical academic expositions and interesting temporary exhibitions are harmoniously combined, and in the museum courtyard, you can see a true gem of wooden architecture — an 18th-century church moved here for preservation.
