A prominent cultural center known as the Yosyp Bokshai Transcarpathian Regional Museum of Art is the main treasury of arts in the city of Uzhhorod. The museum is located in a magnificent building of the former Zhupanat (city hall), built in 1809. This majestic monument of neoclassical architecture on Zhupanatska Square is decorated with a coat of arms symbolizing the glory and prosperity of the region and is surrounded by a picturesque square.

Today, Ukraine is rightfully proud of this collection, as the museum's funds hold more than 10,000 exhibits. The collection includes rare icons, Western European Renaissance paintings, and works by prominent masters of classical landscape. Of particular value are the canvases by Ivan Aivazovsky, Ivan Shishkin, and Isaac Levitan, which harmoniously coexist with works by European artists from Italy, France, and the Netherlands.
The museum bears the name of Yosyp Bokshai, one of the pillars of the original Transcarpathian School of Painting. It is here that one can most fully experience the unique style of local artists, whose works are imbued with love for their native nature and folk traditions. Spacious halls with high ceilings and classical interiors create an ideal atmosphere for immersion in the world of beauty.
