Created in 1999 as a result of a large-scale renovation of the coastal zone, Gündoğdu Square quickly became a symbol of Izmir's modern urban space and its dynamic development. In the heart of the square stands the impressive "Tree of the Republic" monument (Cumhuriyet Ağacı Heykeli). This sculptural composition was installed to honor the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Turkey and serves as an important patriotic symbol.
Today, Gündoğdu Square is not just a beautiful open area with a sea view, but also an important cultural and public space. It regularly hosts various events, from major concerts and festivals to city holidays and public gatherings. Thanks to its location, atmosphere, and multifunctionality, the square attracts people of all ages, offering them a chance to enjoy the sea breeze and become part of the vibrant city life.
