Ordu Büyükşehir Belediyesi Ters Ev

About

In the Turkish city of Ordu, you will find one of the most unusual and photogenic structures on the Black Sea coast — the Upside Down House (Ters Ev). This architectural marvel, literally standing on its roof, defies gravity and invites tourists to look at everyday life from a completely different angle.

The site is a two-story building where everything — from the furniture to the garden decorations and even a parked car — is turned upside down. This creative project, realized in the Altınordu district, became the first attraction of its kind in the region and quickly gained popularity among travelers visiting Turkey.

Located next to the lower station of the cable car, Ters Ev harmoniously complements the city's tourist appeal. Thanks to its bright appearance and unusual concept, the house is an ideal spot for family vacations and for creating unique social media content.

What to Do

The main entertainment here is creating optical illusions. Visitors can "walk on the ceiling," "hang" from kitchen cabinets, or "balance" on the back of an upside-down sofa. The house's interior is meticulously detailed: there is a fully furnished living room, bedroom, and kitchen, where every little thing is fixed in place contrary to the laws of physics.

Don't forget to prepare your camera—the shots taken inside look absolutely surreal after being rotated 180 degrees. Before entering the house, an upside-down garden and even an inverted car await you, providing the opportunity to take great photos even before heading inside.

A visit to the house is easily combined with a trip on the cable car (teleferik) to the top of Boztepe Hill. This allows you to have a complete experience: first, have some fun in the "upside-down world," and then enjoy a breathtaking panorama of the city and the Black Sea from a bird's-eye view.

Getting There

The Upside Down House is located in the Altınordu district at: Şarkiye, Atatürk Blv. No:143. It is very easy to find, as it is situated in the immediate proximity of the lower station of the cable car (teleferik) that leads to Boztepe Hill.

If you are in the center of Ordu, the easiest way to get here is on foot or by a short taxi ride—the trip will only take a few minutes. Local city buses also run regularly to the Şarkiye area.

For tourists arriving from Ordu-Giresun Airport, the drive via the D010 highway takes about 1 hour. Parking is available near the attraction, which is convenient for travelers with rental cars.

History & Facts

The project, named Ordu Büyükşehir Belediyesi Ters Ev, was implemented by the city municipality as an innovative tourist site. The official opening took place on June 19, 2019, and since then, the house has become one of the city's main "signature landmarks."

The 150 m² structure is unique for the Black Sea region of Turkey. The building features a special radial foundation and a tilt in two planes, which enhances the sense of disorientation for visitors. Despite its unusual shape, the house is completely safe and was designed in compliance with all architectural standards.

The popularity of the site exceeded all expectations: in its first six months of operation alone, it was visited by more than 130,000 people. Even during periods of restrictions, interest in the attraction remained high, confirming the success of the idea to create creative spaces for local tourism development.

Time Needed

Usually, visitors need about 30 to 60 minutes to tour the upside-down house itself and take a series of fun photos. This time is quite enough to go through all the rooms on the two floors and explore the interior details.

However, we recommend setting aside about 1.5–2 hours for your visit to this area. This will allow you to combine your visit to Ters Ev with a walk along the promenade or a ride on the cable car, the lower station of which is literally just a few steps away.

Working Hours

The Upside Down House is open to guests daily, seven days a week. The attraction's schedule remains stable throughout the year, making it easy to include in your itinerary:
