There is no direct rail service to the city itself, as Moab does not have an active train station. For travellers who prefer trains, it is most convenient to travel to the station in the city of Grand Junction, located 180 km from the final destination.

From there, tourists will need to transfer to a rental car or use a bus transfer. Other nearby settlements, such as Montrose and Cortez, are significantly further away and less convenient for connecting with rail routes.

Bus services connect the region with some neighbouring cities, although such trips often require allowing extra time due to complex logistics in the mountainous terrain. For example, the route from the city of Montrose covers a distance of about 358 km and takes approximately 10.5 hours.

This option is suitable for those who do not plan to rent a car and are prepared for a long journey for the sake of observing the changing landscapes from the bus window.

Travelling by car is one of the most popular and scenic ways to get to the city. The shortest and most convenient route runs from the city of Grand Junction: the distance of 180 km can be covered in just 1.7 hours. A similar time, about 1.9 hours, will be taken by the drive from the city of Cortez (184 km).

If you are departing from the city of Montrose, be prepared to spend a little more time on the road — about 2.8 hours to drive 277 km. The roads in this region are distinguished by good quality and incredible views of the canyons and plateaus.

A trip to Moab requires certain preparation, as the city is located in a high-altitude desert zone with a changeable climate. To ensure your journey is comfortable and safe, please pay attention to the following recommendations.

1. Clothing and Gear: Use the layering principle: it can be hot during the day and cool in the evening. Be sure to bring trekking shoes with good grip for walking on the rocks.
