History & Facts

The history of Parkersburg Brewing Company dates back to 1864, when German immigrants John Hebrank and Marcus Rapp founded a small production facility. Later, in 1889, the enterprise expanded and officially took its current name. At its peak, the brewery produced up to 60,000 barrels a year, with the barrels themselves crafted on-site by local artisans.

Unfortunately, the Prohibition era and the temperance movement led to the business closing in 1912. In the following decades, the original brewery building was used as a car dealership and a Coca-Cola bottling plant before eventually being demolished in 2004. It seemed the story of the legendary brand had come to an end, but local residents had other plans.

The modern version of the brewery opened thanks to the efforts of a group of enthusiasts determined to revive their hometown's heritage. They didn't just open a bar; they restored a piece of historical pride to the city, proving that old recipes and a passion for the craft can stand the test of time. Today, the establishment is considered one of the best in the region, earning expert recognition and a gold medal at the World Beer Cup in 2018 for its signature brown ale.
