The nearest stops are also located along Washington Ave, making it a quick walk to the park entrance. During daylight hours, the walk from downtown takes very little time and offers pleasant city views.

If you are staying in the central districts, you can use a taxi or take a bike ride — the well-maintained paths make this route very comfortable. When planning a visit during major holidays, such as July 4th, it is recommended to arrive early due to the high volume of visitors.

The history of this location dates back to the 19th century, when the land was donated to the city. Since then, the territory has evolved from a simple natural plot into the historic Hoyt Park, becoming the center of the region's sports and recreational life. For decades, it served as the primary venue for winter fun, particularly famous for its steep sledding hills.

A significant milestone in the park's architectural look was 1938. It was then that local architect Donald A. Kimball designed the elegant pavilion and field house, which today add historical charm to the site. These buildings are a reminder of the classic era of American park design and have been carefully preserved to this day.

A new chapter in the location's life began in 2008, when the non-profit organization Friends of Hoyt Park (FOHP) took over the park on a long-term lease. Thanks to the efforts of volunteers, the athletic grounds and baseball fields were restored. A special achievement was the long-awaited reopening of the winter ice rink in January 2013, which had not been operational for ten whole years.

Today, the park continues to thrive solely through donations and the hard work of volunteers. Every event here — from summer baseball games to winter skating under the lights — is supported by people who are passionate about their city and its traditions.

To simply stroll along the paths and soak in the atmosphere, 1–2 hours will be quite sufficient. This is enough time to view the historic buildings and take beautiful photos against the backdrop of the green lawns.
