Current Weather

Planning a trip to Nghi Son? Here you will find the most up-to-date weather information and detailed forecasts to help you perfectly plan your vacation in this region of Vietnam.

Overview

Nghi Son, nestled in Thanh Hoa Province, welcomes travelers with a classic tropical monsoon climate. This region of Vietnam is characterized by a clear division of the year into two main seasons: a sunny dry season and a humid rainy season, which largely dictates the rhythm of life in this coastal city.

From November to April, the dry season prevails, with clear skies and pleasantly warm air. This is considered an ideal time for strolling and exploring the local culture. Starting in May, the monsoons arrive, bringing refreshing showers and high humidity that peaks by late summer. The average annual temperature stays within +24–26°C, making the region attractive for tourism almost year-round.

Thanks to its proximity to the South China Sea, the city's climate is milder than in the country's interior. The sea breeze helps to make the summer heat more bearable, while stable water temperatures make the coast an excellent vacation spot, provided you account for the seasonal rainfall schedule.

Temperature

Temperatures in Nghi Son remain consistently high throughout the year, though there are seasonal nuances. The coolest months are traditionally January and February, when daytime temperatures stay around +21...+23°C and can drop to +15°C at night. This time is perfect for those who prefer moderate warmth over sweltering heat.

With the arrival of spring, temperatures begin to rise rapidly, peaking in June and July. During this period, daytime highs of +33...+35°C combined with high humidity create a typical tropical atmosphere. Summer night temperatures rarely drop below +27°C, ensuring very warm, sometimes muggy evenings.

A key factor for vacationers is the water temperature along the coast of Vietnam. Near the city, the sea remains comfortable for swimming almost year-round: from +26°C in winter to +30°C at the height of summer. The best time for a beach holiday is considered to be the period from December to March, when the water is clear and the temperature regime is most balanced.

Precipitation

Rainfall patterns in Nghi Son depend directly on the monsoon cycle. Most of the rain falls between May and October. During this time, the city is under the influence of moist air masses, and downpours become a frequent occurrence. Typically, precipitation takes the form of powerful but short-lived tropical thunderstorms, after which the sun reappears.

Humidity peaks in August and September, when rainfall can exceed 300 mm per month. During this period, prolonged rains and strong winds are possible due to typhoon activity in the South China Sea. Humidity during these months consistently stays at 85–90%, creating a "sauna" effect that makes the heat feel more intense.

In contrast, the period from November to April is characterized by minimal moisture. The driest months are December, January, and February, when rain is very rare and the number of wet days does not exceed five per month. This period guarantees travelers stable weather, ideal for long excursions through the surrounding areas of Vietnam.

Packing Tips

When packing your suitcase for Nghi Son, prioritize clothing made of natural fabrics such as cotton or linen. These allow the skin to breathe in the tropical humidity. Regardless of the season, you will need sunglasses, a wide-brimmed hat, and a quality sunscreen with a high SPF, as the sun in Vietnam is very intense even on cloudy days.

If your trip is planned for the rainy season (May–October), be sure to pack a light raincoat or a compact umbrella. Humidity is high during this time, so it's worth taking quick-drying clothes and comfortable rubber flip-flops. A waterproof case for electronics and documents is also a good idea to protect them during sudden tropical downpours.

For travel during the dry season, especially in the winter months, it is worth following the layering principle. Although it is warm during the day, evening temperatures can drop to +15...+18°C, so a light windbreaker or a thin sweater will be very useful. Also, don't forget to bring insect repellent and comfortable shoes for walking along the coast.
