Current Weather

Planning a trip to Anda? In this section, you will find the latest information on current weather conditions and detailed forecasts for your journey through China.

Overview

The climate in Anda is sharply continental with distinct seasonality, typical of the Heilongjiang province in China. The city greets visitors with a long, freezing winter and a relatively short but warm and pleasant summer. Transitional periods happen quite rapidly here, turning spring thaws into summer warmth in just a few weeks.

The warm season in the region usually lasts about four months — from mid-May to September. During this time, Anda enjoys comfortable weather for walking and exploring the surroundings, with average daily temperatures often exceeding +19°C. However, you should be prepared for variable cloud cover, which can accompany the city throughout the year.

Winter months bring chilling frosts and a steady snow cover. The harsh nature of winter makes this period a challenge for unprepared travelers, but at the same time, it gives the city a true northern winter atmosphere. The contrast between seasons in this corner of Northeast China is striking and requires a careful approach to trip planning.

Temperature

The temperature range in Anda features an impressive annual swing: the thermometer can fluctuate from -25°C in the heart of winter to +30°C at the peak of summer. July is traditionally the hottest month, with daytime highs reaching the thirty-degree mark, while nights remain moderately warm — around +18...+20°C. June and August also remain pleasantly warm, making summer in China quite comfortable for active recreation.

January is rightfully considered the harshest month of the year: daytime temperatures rarely rise above -11°C, and at night the air cools down to extreme -25°C and below. February and December are only slightly warmer, maintaining consistently freezing weather. These low values are due to the influence of cold air masses that bring stable winter cold to Anda.

An important feature of the local climate is the significant diurnal temperature fluctuations. Even during the warm period, the difference between daytime warmth and nighttime coolness can be 10-12°C. In autumn, for example in September, it can still be sunny like summer during the day (up to +21...+25°C), but after sunset, the temperature drops sharply, reminding you of the coming frosts.

Precipitation

Precipitation distribution in Anda is subject to monsoon influence, making summer the wettest time of year. Rainfall peaks in July and August, when up to 120-150 mm of precipitation falls per month. During these months, nearly half the days can be rainy, and precipitation often takes the form of intense showers that quickly give way to clear skies.

Conversely, the winter period is considered the dry season. Although it snows regularly and forms a steady cover, the total amount of moisture in January and February is minimal — only about 5 mm per month. Precipitation at this time of year in China falls exclusively as fluffy snow, which doesn't melt due to the consistently sub-zero temperatures in Anda.

Transitional seasons, such as early spring (March) and late autumn (November), are also characterized by dryness. During this time, the probability of precipitation is extremely low, and the sky often remains clear. On average, the region receives about 500-600 mm of moisture annually, most of which provides the lush greenery around the city during the warm period.

Packing Tips

When packing your suitcase for Anda, it's important to focus on seasonality and consider the wind's influence. For a summer trip (May to September), light clothing like T-shirts, shorts, and dresses is the optimal choice. However, even then, be sure to bring a light jacket or hoodie for cool evenings and a high-quality raincoat, as summer downpours in China can be sudden. Don't forget sunscreen and sunglasses — the sun here can be very intense.

If your journey is planned for the winter period, preparation should be as serious as possible. You will need a warm parka with reliable wind protection, high-quality thermal underwear, a hat, and mittens. Pay special attention to footwear: it should be warm and have a non-slip sole for confident walks in the snow. The strong wind in Anda significantly increases the wind chill, so protecting your face and hands is a must.

In the off-season, when temperatures can change drastically throughout the day, it's best to follow the layering principle. Combining a T-shirt, sweater, and windbreaker will allow you to quickly adapt to fluctuations from +8°C to +25°C. A compact umbrella and moisturizer will be universal helpers at any time of year, helping your skin cope with the dry continental air.
