Current Weather

Planning a trip to picturesque Faiyum? In this section, you will find up-to-date weather information, temperature charts, and detailed forecasts to help you perfectly plan every day of your stay in Egypt.

Overview

The climate in Faiyum is a typical desert type, characteristic of oases tucked away in the Libyan Desert. This region of Egypt is famous for its stability and vast number of sunny days—about 343 per year—making the city a virtually year-round tourist destination.

Throughout the year, there is a clear seasonality: extremely hot and dry summers give way to mild, pleasant winters. Thanks to its connection to the Nile via the Bahr Yussef canal, the oasis microclimate is slightly milder than in the open desert, though the general features of an arid climate remain—prolonged rain or high humidity are almost nonexistent here.

The overall weather is favorable for year-round visits, but experts recommend choosing the period from October to April. During this time, the heat recedes, giving way to comfortable warmth, ideal for walking along the shores of Lake Qarun and exploring ancient open-air monuments.

Temperature

The temperature regime in Faiyum is characterized by a wide annual range and significant daily fluctuations. The hottest period occurs in July and August, when average daily maximums are around +38°C, and during peak hours, the thermometer can rise to +46°C. June is equally intense, bringing the dry heat of the Libyan Desert.

The winter months, January and December, are considered the coolest in Egypt. During the day, temperatures stay around +20°C...+22°C, creating ideal conditions for active tourism. However, desert nights can be quite cold: the average minimum in January is about +9°C, while absolute historical lows in the region have reached +2°C.

Transitional seasons—spring (April–May) and autumn (October–November)—offer the most balanced weather. During the day in Faiyum, it is usually around +25°C...+31°C, and evenings remain pleasantly warm. A characteristic feature is the sharp temperature drop between day and night, which can reach 10-15 degrees, so travelers should always have some warm clothing for the evening.

Precipitation

Precipitation in Faiyum is extremely rare, which is typical for an arid oasis climate. On average, only about 22 rainy days are recorded per year. There is no rainy season as such, and the rare precipitation that does occur usually falls in the winter period from December to February, when no more than a few millimeters of moisture fall per month.

Summer months in this region of Egypt are almost completely dry. From June to August, the probability of seeing rain tends toward zero, and the sky remains cloudless for weeks. Humidity remains low year-round, averaging about 47%, which makes high temperatures easier to bear.

Snow never falls in this corner of the world, as even on the coldest nights, the temperature rarely drops below +2°C...+6°C. For tourists, such a dry climate is a big plus: the risk of a downpour ruining your plans for an excursion to the Wadi El Rayan waterfalls or Lake Qarun is practically minimal.

Packing Tips

Preparing your wardrobe for a trip to Faiyum largely depends on the season, but the main rule remains the principle of layering. For summer (June–August), choose clothing made from light, breathable natural fabrics such as cotton and linen. Despite the heat, long sleeves will help protect your skin from the harsh sun. Be sure to bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen with SPF 50+.

In the winter months (December–February), the weather in Egypt can be deceptive: while it is quite comfortable in a T-shirt during the day, the temperature drops sharply after sunset. For evening walks in the oasis, you will need jeans, a warm sweater, or a windbreaker. In spring and autumn, your wardrobe can be versatile, combining light items for the day and thin jackets for the evening.

Regardless of the time of year, make sure to bring comfortable closed-toe shoes—light sneakers or trekking sandals will be indispensable when walking through sandy areas and archaeological zones. It is also useful to carry a compact backpack for water and a personal first-aid kit to ensure your journey through the oasis is as comfortable as possible.
