What to Do

A visit to The Shamrock is always a little adventure for the soul and the palate. Here you can enjoy authentic Irish cuisine and a wide selection of brews, including famous varieties from the island as well as the best local examples. The establishment regularly organizes live music performances, which turn an ordinary evening into a true celebration of sound.

Special attention should be given to the regular jam sessions, which attract talented performers from all around. This is a unique opportunity to hear live improvisations and immerse yourself in an atmosphere of creative freedom. Additionally, themed evenings and quizzes are often held on weekends, bringing together the most competitive guests.

For connoisseurs of spirits, the owners have prepared a pleasant surprise—a special whiskey menu with a carefully selected collection of varieties. Regardless of whether you come to chat with friends over a pint of stout or want to spend the evening in the company of culturally like-minded people, the pub offers the perfect conditions for an unforgettable break.

Getting There

Finding the establishment is easy, as it is located at Schulstraße 11 in the heart of Köthen. This is a central part of the city, perfect for a pleasant stroll before heading in for a pint of cool ale.

If you are traveling from other regions of Saxony-Anhalt, the most convenient way is to use the railway connection. The city is well-connected to neighboring settlements. From the Köthen train station, the pub can be reached on foot in a reasonable amount of time, or you can take a taxi directly from the station.

For those who prefer a private car, GPS navigation is recommended. Keep in mind that streets in the old city center can be narrow, so it's a good idea to look for a parking spot on neighboring streets and continue to the pub on foot.

History & Facts

The history of this place is filled with dedication to tradition and a love for the craft. For 15 years, the soul of the establishment was Ivette Schotte, who turned an ordinary bar into a real hub for locals and musicians. Her decision to retire in June 2024 was a sad event for many regular guests.

However, the pub's story didn't end there; it received an unexpected "second wind." A group of local enthusiasts—Tom Aslan, Sven Röthe, and Susi Fritsche—decided not to let the legendary spot close forever. They developed a revival plan and carried out an extensive renovation while preserving the very spirit of Ireland that the townspeople loved so much.

The grand reopening at the end of September 2024 turned into a true city celebration with a folklore festival and a jam session. What is particularly noteworthy is that the former owner, Ivette Schotte, continues to be involved in the life of the pub, helping the new owners organize their famous quizzes and maintaining an unbreakable link between the establishment's past and present.

Time Needed

To fully experience the hospitable atmosphere and enjoy your drinks without rushing, it is recommended to set aside at least 2–3 hours for your visit. This is quite enough for a relaxed dinner and conversation in a pleasant setting.

If you plan to attend a live music performance, a themed evening, or a jam session, it is better to budget 3–4 hours in your schedule. Usually, such evenings fly by, and guests often stay until the very close, not wanting to part with the festive mood.

Working Hours

The pub warmly opens its doors for evening gatherings from Tuesday to Sunday. Please note that the establishment is closed on Mondays—this is the team's traditional day of rest.

On weekdays (Tuesday-Thursday) and on Sunday, the pub is open from 18:00 to 01:00. On Friday and Saturday, the fun is extended until 02:00. As the schedule may change depending on holidays or special concerts, it is recommended to check the establishment's official social media pages before your visit.
