"Blau SkyBar" is an exquisite panoramic bar located on the ninth floor of the Hotel Catalunya in the sunny city of Alghero. This establishment is rightfully considered one of the best viewing platforms of the resort, offering guests a breathtaking view of the harbor, the historic center, and Cape Caccia. Thanks to its location, the bar seems to hover over the city, creating a sensation of flight.

The interior of the establishment is designed in a modern elegant style, but the main decoration here is, undoubtedly, the landscape outside the window.

What to Do

The main reason people come to "Blau SkyBar" is the famous Italian aperitif ritual with the best view in the city. Order a glass of local Sardinian wine or a signature cocktail and watch the sun slowly sink into the sea behind Cape Caccia. The play of light on the water and the roofs of the old city creates a unique spectacle that is worth seeing with your own eyes.

Photography enthusiasts will find many great angles here. From the terrace, the medieval fortress walls, the dome of Santa Maria Cathedral, and yachts moored in the port are clearly visible. The evening illumination of the city adds a special magic to the shots, so keep your camera or phone ready.

You can also simply relax in the cozy lounge area, enjoying light snacks and pleasant music. This is an excellent place to catch your breath after a busy day of excursions or, conversely, start the evening before going to a restaurant.

Getting There

Getting to "Blau SkyBar" is not difficult, as it is located in the very heart of the city, on the top floor of the Hotel Catalunya. The building is located directly opposite Giuseppe Manno Park and the marina. If you are walking around the historic center, you can reach here on foot in just 5–10 minutes, orienting yourself by the tallest building in the area.

For those traveling by public transport, stops for city and intercity buses (including airport shuttles) are located near the hotel. If you prefer a taxi, the trip from the train station will take about 5–7 minutes, and from Fertilia Airport — approximately 15–20 minutes.

History & Facts

Although the bar itself is a modern establishment, the Hotel Catalunya building, on the roof of which it is located, became one of the architectural landmarks of the city in the second half of the 20th century. Its construction marked the city's transition to the development of the tourism industry. The name "Blau" was not chosen by chance: translated from Catalan, a dialect of which is historically spoken here, it means "blue". This is a direct reference to the deep color of the sky and the Mediterranean Sea, which merge on the horizon.

Interestingly, the sky-bar concept allows you to see the city from an unusual angle. Historically, Alghero was a fortress city, and most viewing platforms were located on the walls or towers. "Blau SkyBar" offered an alternative: a view of the ancient bastions and the port from above, creating a visual bridge between the city's medieval past and its resort present.

The place quickly became popular not only among tourists but also among locals, turning into a kind of gathering point for watching sunsets. Here you can feel the spirit of the "Coral Riviera" — the name of the coast given to this area thanks to the mining of red coral, which has become a symbol of the region.

Time Needed

Usually, a visit to "Blau SkyBar" takes from one to two hours. This time is quite enough to leisurely enjoy drinks, take beautiful photos, and fully immerse yourself in an atmosphere of relaxation.

Many guests come here specifically for the sunset, so it is recommended to plan your visit in advance to catch the changing colors over the sea. If you plan only a light aperitif before dinner, 45 minutes might be enough for you, but the stunning view often makes you stay longer.

Working Hours

When planning a visit, pay attention to the establishment's schedule. From Monday to Saturday, the bar opens its doors in the afternoon, working from 15:00 to 22:00. This is the ideal time for afternoon relaxation or an evening cocktail.

On Sunday, the schedule is slightly different: "Blau SkyBar" welcomes guests from 11:00 to 21:00, allowing you to enjoy morning coffee or a daytime view of the bay.

Nearby

After relaxing at the bar and enjoying the panorama, it is worth going down and exploring the surroundings. The location of the establishment is ideal for starting a walk through the historic center, where the city's main architectural monuments are concentrated.
