The park's main highlight is its picturesque artificial pond, which has become home to many waterfowl. Walking along the neat alleys, you can enjoy the rich flora and feel the pleasant coolness provided by the proximity to the water. This place is equally popular with morning joggers and families seeking quiet away from the city noise.

Terramaini is deservedly considered one of the city's "lungs." Thanks to its location on the border of the Pirri and Monreale districts, the park serves as a favorite meeting place for locals and a must-visit spot for tourists who appreciate quality public spaces.

A wide variety of leisure options awaits park visitors. Active lifestyle enthusiasts will appreciate the excellent running and cycling paths, as well as specialized courts for basketball and football. If you prefer outdoor workouts, modern fitness zones are at your service.

The lake is a major point of interest: from pedestrian bridges and coastal paths, you can spend hours watching wild ducks and herons. It is a perfect spot for birdwatching and atmospheric photography. For the youngest guests, Terramaini Park features spacious playgrounds, which are considered some of the best in the city.

Throughout the year, local cultural festivals, fairs, and sports competitions are often held here. However, even on a regular weekday, it is pleasant to have a small picnic on one of the green lawns or simply relax with a book, enjoying the Mediterranean sun and fresh air.

Getting There

Getting to this green space is easy, as it is conveniently located relative to the city's main transport arteries. If you are using public transport, the most convenient options are bus lines CTM No. 1, 3, 8, or 19. You should get off at the "Terramaini" or "Piazza Giovanni XXIII" stops, which are located in close proximity to the entrance.

A taxi ride from the city center takes about 10–15 minutes. For those who prefer to travel by private or rental car, there are parking areas near the park on Via Andrea Vesalio. Please note that vehicle access to the park grounds is prohibited, which makes walking there as safe as possible.

The park is also excellently integrated into the city's cycle path network, so many locals prefer to come by bike, for which special parking racks are provided inside.

History & Facts

Despite its modern appearance, this area has deep roots. The name "Terramaini" comes from the historical district of the same name and is associated with a system of ancient irrigation canals that once crisscrossed the area. During the park's design, archaeologists discovered traces of structures dating back to Ancient Rome, confirming the significance of this land for many centuries.

Terramaini Park itself was officially opened in 2003. Before that, the site consisted of unused urban land in need of reclamation. Transforming a wasteland into a blooming garden was part of a large-scale city greening and ecological restoration program, which included the recovery of the local pond.

Today, the park is considered one of the most successful examples of urban planning in Sardinia. During construction, developers managed not only to create zones for active recreation but also to maintain a balance with nature, recreating a habitat for many bird species that now call this place home.

Time Needed

To leisurely stroll along the main paths and admire the lake, an average visitor will need about 1.5–2.5 hours. This is quite enough for an introductory walk and a short break on one of the benches in the shade of the trees.

If you plan to visit with the whole family, make use of the playgrounds, or utilize the sports zones, we recommend setting aside at least 3–4 hours. Many locals come here for half a day to combine active outdoor games with a cozy picnic on the grass.

Working Hours

The park is open to visitors daily, allowing guests to plan their visit at any convenient time. According to the official schedule, Terramaini Park operates as follows:

  • Monday — Sunday: from 06:00 to 22:00

The morning hours are ideal for sports, while the evenings are perfect for romantic walks along the illuminated lake. Please note that operating hours may vary slightly depending on the season or scheduled public events.
