The Venetian Walls of Bergamo are a majestic 16th-century defensive structure that encircles the historical part of the city of Bergamo, located in Italy. These powerful fortifications were built to protect the city during the period when Bergamo was under the rule of the Venetian Republic. Today, they are considered one of the most impressive monuments of Renaissance military architecture and are a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The walls are an imposing stone complex with a total length of about 6 kilometers. Their structure includes massive bastions, four monumental gates (Porta San Giacomo, Porta Sant'Agostino, Porta Sant'Alessandro, and Porta San Lorenzo, also known as Porta Garibaldi), sally ports, gun platforms, and numerous passages. This complex fortification system was designed to withstand the artillery attacks of its time.
Nowadays, the Venetian Walls are not only an important historical symbol of the city but also one of Bergamo's main tourist attractions. A walk along the walls offers unforgettable panoramic views of the Upper City (Città Alta) with its medieval streets and the Lower City (Città Bassa), as well as the surrounding foothills of the Alps. It is a wonderful place for leisurely strolls, allowing you to touch history and enjoy the beauty of the Lombard landscapes.
