St. John's Fortress (also known as San Giovanni) is a majestic historical structure and, without a doubt, the main defensive fortification of Kotor, located in Montenegro. This powerful fortress crowns the top of a 280-meter hill, looming over the Old Town, and is a key element of the unique fortification system that protected Kotor for centuries. It is an outstanding example of medieval defensive architecture on the Adriatic coast.
