The climate in the city of Sittwe can be described as tropical monsoon. This coastal region of Myanmar is characterised by high temperatures throughout the year and a very clear division into dry and wet seasons. Cold weather is practically non-existent here, so travellers should prepare for warm, and at times hot, weather regardless of the chosen travel dates.

The year is divided into two contrasting periods. The dry season lasts from November to April: during these months, rain is an exceptional rarity, and the sky delights with cloudless blue. This is the most comfortable time for tourism, when the average air temperature rises smoothly from a pleasant +22°C in January to a hot +29°C in April, allowing you to enjoy walks without exhausting heat or downpours.

With the arrival of May, the picture changes drastically: the prolonged rainy season begins, lasting until October. The peak of precipitation falls on the summer months (June, July, August), when it rains almost daily, and air humidity becomes very high. At the same time, the temperature remains stable (around +27…+28°C), creating a "tropical steam room" effect. Tourists in this period will definitely need reliable rain protection, but warm clothes can safely be left at home.

Weather conditions in the city of Sittwe are characterised by high temperatures for most of the year, although a change of seasons can be clearly distinguished. The hottest period is the spring months, especially April and May, when the average air temperature reaches +29°C. At this time, the daytime heat often reaches the +32.5°C mark, creating a sensation of intense heat before the onset of the monsoons.

The summer months and early autumn (from June to September) bring a slight decrease in temperature indicators, which stabilise at +27.5°C. A characteristic feature of this humid period is the minimal temperature amplitude: the difference between day and night becomes almost imperceptible, amounting to only 2–3 degrees. Due to dense cloud cover, the air does not have time to cool down significantly, and even at night thermometers show around +26°C.

The most pleasant and mild time is considered the winter season, lasting from December to February. January is the "coldest" month of the year with an average temperature of about +22°C. It is during this period that the most noticeable daily fluctuations are observed: after comfortable warm days (up to +26.5°C), refreshing nights set in, when the temperature can drop to +17°C, which gives tourists welcome coolness.

The year here is clearly divided into two periods: the time of drought and the rainy season. It is important for tourists to know that the transition between these seasons is quite abrupt, especially when it comes to the frequency of rainfall.

From May, the weather begins to change, marking the arrival of the wet season. The peak of precipitation falls on the summer: June, July, and August are the rainiest months. According to statistics, precipitation falls almost daily during this period — up to 30–31 days a month. Rainy weather persists in September, gradually weakening by October, when the number of days with precipitation decreases to twenty.

When packing for Sittwe, be guided by the features of the tropical climate of this coastal region. In the hot season, which lasts from March to May, the temperature often exceeds +30°C, so the basis of your wardrobe should be light clothing made of natural breathable fabrics, such as cotton or linen. Be sure to take care of sun protection: a wide-brimmed hat, high-quality sunglasses, and cream with a high SPF factor are simply necessary for comfortable walks during the day.

If your trip to Myanmar is planned for the period from June to October, be prepared for the rainy season. Precipitation at this time is very intense, so instead of an umbrella, which can break from gusts of wind from the sea, it is better to take a reliable raincoat or waterproof poncho. Footwear should be comfortable, non-slip, and quick-drying; trekking sandals that are water-resistant are ideal.

For a trip in the winter months (from December to February), it is worth considering the principle of layering in clothing. During the day the weather remains warm, but in the evenings and at night the temperature can drop to +17°C, so a light windbreaker, cardigan, or sweatshirt will be very useful.
