Since its founding in 2007, the complex has brought together over 80 stores under one roof, covering a wide range of categories: from the latest global fashion trends to electronics, home goods, and cozy furniture showrooms. In addition to retail space, there are medical centers, pharmacies, banks, and even a modern library, turning the facility into a full-fledged community hub.

AMFI Madla is known for its friendly atmosphere and well-thought-out infrastructure, including play areas for children and a variety of restaurants. It is a place where Norwegian quality meets European diversity, creating ideal conditions for a comfortable break and successful shopping.

What to Do

The main activity here is, of course, high-quality shopping. At AMFI Madla, you will find numerous boutiques, including Capone & Mrs. Capone with its elegant clothing collections. There are also many shops for electronics, sporting goods, and cozy interior departments where you can buy stylish souvenirs or home essentials.

Beyond shopping, visitors can have a great time at numerous dining spots. Enjoy a cup of aromatic coffee at the popular Espresso House or choose a full meal at one of the restaurants with a refined menu. For families with children, there are safe playgrounds, and the presence of a branch of the city library allows you to spend time reading in a quiet setting.

Thanks to its convenient location, shopping can easily be combined with active recreation. The DNB Arena and Stavanger Ishall ice rinks are just a few minutes' walk away, and a walk to the famous "Swords in Rock" (Sverd i fjell) monument by the fjord takes no more than 20 minutes. This makes the shopping center an excellent base for exploring the western part of the city.

Getting There

You can reach AMFI Madla from the city center in just 8 minutes by car or taxi. If you prefer public transport, take a bus: routes 4, 6, and 7 run regularly in this direction. Bus 16, which goes towards the famous "Swords in Rock," is also a good option.

For walking enthusiasts, the journey from the center takes about 45 minutes. The route is quite scenic, passing through Eiganesveien, known for its charming old wooden houses, and by Lake Mosvannet, where you can enjoy the natural views.

For those traveling by private or rental vehicle, there is spacious free parking in a multi-level garage with 640 spaces, taking the hassle out of finding a spot during busy hours.

History & Facts

The AMFI Madla shopping center opened its doors to visitors in 2007, quickly becoming the largest retail space in Stavanger. However, the site itself has deep historical significance. The Madla district is closely linked to the Viking Age: it is believed that in this area, near Hafrsfjord, the legendary battle took place in 872, after which King Harald Fairhair united the scattered lands into a single kingdom.

Previously, Madla handelslag (a trading cooperative) operated on this site, which eventually evolved into the modern complex. The center's location in the western part of the city, between coastal districts and green zones, makes it an important link for the local communities of Tjensvoll and Stokka.

The complex's proximity to the Iron Age Farm at Ullandhaug is particularly interesting. This unique open-air archaeological museum recreates the life of Norwegians during the period of 350–550 AD on the foundations of authentic ancient buildings. This combination of modernity and antiquity gives a visit to Madla a special flair.

The Ullandhaug Tower, built in 1964, completes the architectural and historical ensemble of the district. Although it was created for communication purposes, today the tower is a popular viewing platform, offering views of the historical landscape where the shopping center harmoniously exists and thrives today.

Time Needed

For a standard visit, including a few shops and a light snack at a cafe, guests usually need about 2–4 hours. The spacious halls and easy navigation allow for shopping without the rush.

If you are planning a full family day, including a visit to the library, the fitness center, and a walk to the nearby "Swords in Rock" monument, we recommend setting aside 4 to 6 hours. This will allow you to fully immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the district, going beyond the walls of the shopping center.

Working Hours

The shopping center operates on a convenient schedule throughout the week, except for Sundays. From Monday to Friday, the complex is open to visitors from 10:00 to 20:00. On Saturday, the working day is slightly shorter — from 10:00 to 19:00.

It is important to remember that AMFI Madla is closed on Sundays, which is a traditional rule for most large shopping malls in Norway. Please keep this in mind when planning your visit.
