The complex stands out for its eco-friendly approach: sustainable materials and energy-saving systems were used during its construction. The spacious territory of the enclosure is surrounded by picturesque parks and forests, creating a sense of total harmony with nature. Here, in conditions as close as possible to their natural habitat, live majestic African elephants, which can be observed in their daily lives.

In addition to the elephants, you can encounter graceful giraffes, rare exotic birds, and reptiles across the vast zoo grounds. What to Do

The main reason people come to the Elephant House is the chance to see the life of these savannah giants without high bars or cramped cages. You can observe their feeding, play, and social interaction in a vast open space. This spectacle fascinates both children and adults, allowing for a better understanding of the character of these intelligent animals.

A walk through the grounds turns into a full-fledged adventure: you can wander through shady alleys or take the free narrow-gauge railway that runs throughout the park. For those eager for knowledge, interactive lectures on ecology and workshops are held, while younger visitors can enjoy themed play areas and educational stands.

If you want to add a historical touch to your holiday, we recommend taking a tour of the local fort, which lasts about an hour and a half. After a busy day, you can have a picnic on the shores of the picturesque Lake Malta, enjoying the fresh air and silence away from the city noise.

Getting There

Getting to the enclosure, located at 81 Krancowa St., is quite simple. From the city center, it is most convenient to use trams No. 6, 8, 13, or 17. You should get off at the "Rondo Srodka" or "Baraniaka" stops, from where you can take a pleasant 20-minute walk along Lake Malta or transfer to a bus.

If you prefer the bus, routes No. 184, 185, 186, 187, 188, and 190 will take you almost to the very entrance of the zoo ("ZOO" or "Krancowa" stops). A taxi ride from the city center will take about 15–20 minutes, which is convenient for groups or families with small children.

For those looking for a more scenic route, a free narrow-gauge railway runs from the Srodka district, bringing visitors directly to the gates. For motorists, there is a paid parking lot (about 4-5 PLN per hour) located approximately 500 meters from the main entrance to the complex.

History & Facts

The history of this place is inextricably linked with the development of the New Zoo in Poznań, which was designed as a large-scale and modern alternative to the old city zoo. From the very beginning, the project was conceived as an ecological oasis, where animal comfort and biodiversity conservation are the top priorities. The Elephant House has become the jewel of this innovative complex.

Particular importance is placed on the zoo's participation in international programs for the protection of endangered species. The majestic African elephants here are not just exhibits, but ambassadors of the wild, helping scientists and volunteers study the habits of their species. The entire complex is harmoniously integrated into the natural landscape, preserving forest areas and creating new ecosystems.

Notably, advanced sustainable energy technologies were used in the creation of the enclosure. This turned the location into an example of how modern architecture can coexist with nature without harming it. Today, this place is recognized as an important cultural and educational center, shaping the environmental awareness of new generations of tourists.

Time Needed

Given the scale of the territory and the number of interesting details, it is worth allocating 2 to 4 hours for a thoughtful introduction to the inhabitants of the enclosure and the nearby areas. This time is enough to take a leisurely stroll along the paths, observe the giants' behavior, and take beautiful photos.

If you plan to explore the entire New Zoo, it is better to set aside half a day or even a full day. Since there will be a lot of walking, don't forget comfortable shoes and the possibility of using the internal train to move between distant points in the park.

Working Hours

Typically, the complex welcomes guests daily from 09:00 to 19:00 during the summer season (March to October), with ticket offices closing one hour earlier. In the winter months, operating hours are reduced (often until 16:00) depending on daylight hours, so it is highly recommended to check the information on the official website before your trip.

Remember that opening hours may change on public holidays. To catch the elephants during their most active periods, it is best to plan your visit for the morning hours or during scheduled feeding times.
