General Weather Conditions

The climate on the island of Culebra can be described as tropical marine, attracting tourists with stable warmth and an abundance of sunny days. Eternal summer reigns here, and the weather remains favourable for travel at practically any time of the year. Thanks to constant trade winds, even high temperatures during the hottest months are borne quite comfortably, creating ideal conditions for a beach holiday.

The temperature regime is distinguished by enviable consistency: the thermometer rarely drops below +24°C even in the "coldest" months — January and February — while in summer and early autumn, the average temperature holds around +27°C. There is no pronounced seasonality here, so the concept of winter on the island is quite nominal, signifying only slightly fresher evenings and maximally comfortable ocean water.

Precipitation is distributed fairly evenly throughout the year, with a slight increase in the frequency of rainy days from August to November. However, despite the statistics, rains in Culebra usually take the form of short-term tropical showers that pass quickly and give way to bright sunshine, without disrupting travellers' plans to explore this picturesque corner of Puerto Rico.

Temperature

The climate on the island of Culebra is noted for its enviable consistency, offering tourists warmth and comfort all year round. The annual temperature range here is small: the "coldest" months, February and March, show average figures of around 24.8°C, while the peak heat occurs in September with an average temperature of up to 27.5°C. Thanks to this, the island remains an attractive destination for relaxation regardless of the season.

The summer period is characterised by stable heat. From June to August, the air warms up on average to 27°C, creating ideal conditions for a beach holiday without extreme sweltering heat. Winter in Puerto Rico is very mild and more resembles a pleasant summer in temperate latitudes: in December and January, the thermometer steadily holds at the 25-26°C mark. This is a wonderful time for those who want to enjoy the sun while avoiding peak temperatures.

A characteristic feature of the local temperature regime is the minimal daily fluctuations. Judging by statistics, the difference between daily highs and nightly lows is quite small and usually amounts to just about 1.5 degrees. This means that an amazingly even atmosphere reigns on Culebra, and even nights here remain truly warm, allowing for walks by the sea in light clothing at any time of day.

Precipitation

The weather in Culebra is typical for a tropical climate: it is warm here year-round, and precipitation falls exclusively as rain. Analysing the statistics, one can notice that moisture is distributed across the months quite specifically. Although rain is possible at any time of year, its intensity and frequency change, forming wetter and relatively dry periods, which is worth considering when planning a trip.

The wettest season begins in the second half of summer and lasts until mid-autumn. The "wettest" month in terms of rainfall amount is September, when an average of 8 mm of moisture falls. At the same time, August leads in rain frequency — about 27 days with precipitation are recorded in this month. In the period from July to October, the probability of getting caught in the rain is highest, yet these are often warm tropical downpours that pass quickly.

The relatively dry period falls on the first half of the year, especially spring. From January to June, the average rainfall level stays at a minimal mark of around 2 mm. The most favourable months in terms of clear skies can be called March and April, when the number of rainy days decreases to 17–18. This is the best time for a beach holiday, as even if precipitation occurs, it is usually short-lived and does not interfere with enjoying the island's nature.

What to Pack

When packing for a holiday in Culebra, it is worth remembering that eternal summer reigns here: the average air temperature stays in a comfortable range from +25°C to +28°C year-round. The basis of your wardrobe should consist of items made from light, breathable natural fabrics, such as cotton or linen. Be sure to take several sets of swimwear, shorts, t-shirts, and light dresses, as you will likely spend most of your time on the beach or by the water.

Despite the warm weather, statistics show that precipitation is possible throughout the year (on average about 20 rainy days per month), although its intensity is low. This means a high probability of short tropical showers. We recommend packing a light folding umbrella or a compact raincoat in your suitcase, as well as opting for quick-drying clothes. Do not forget protection against the active sun: sunscreen with a high SPF factor, sunglasses, and a wide-brimmed hat are mandatory in any season.

For walks around the island, comfortable shoes will come in handy — sandals with secure straps or light trainers, and for beaches, it is better to bring special water shoes. In the evenings, a fresh breeze may blow from the ocean, so the principle of layering will be relevant even in the tropics: bring a light windbreaker or a thin long-sleeved top to feel comfortable after sunset or during boat trips.
