The construction is impressive in its scale: the wheel's diameter is about 126 meters. For the comfort of visitors, there are 60 spacious cabins, each equipped with air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and even USB ports for charging gadgets. This makes the trip as pleasant as possible in any weather, allowing guests to fully focus on the breathtaking panorama.

From the highest vantage point, views open up that can rival those from famous skyscrapers. On a clear day, you can see not only city blocks and mountain ranges but also the distant Taiwan Strait. The main experience for which thousands of tourists come here is a 30-minute journey into the sky. After your descent, don't rush to leave — the Lihpao Outlet Mall is located nearby, where you can go shopping or dine in international restaurants. For thrill-seekers, a professional racing track operates close by, while culture enthusiasts can visit the Saxophone Memorial Hall to complete their day with interesting discoveries.

Getting There

The Sky Dream Ferris wheel is located within a large entertainment complex in the Houli district. To get here from the central district of Taichung, it is most convenient to take a taxi or a rental car — the trip takes about 30–40 minutes via high-speed expressways.

For those who prefer public transport, there are regular bus routes. You can take the high-speed rail to Taichung HSR Station or the train to Houli TRA Station, from where special shuttles and city buses run to the park. Another popular option is the route from the stop near the Yamay Sugar Factory.

Thanks to its impressive size, the structure is visible from afar from three national highways, making it an excellent landmark for drivers. The complex provides spacious parking, so there will be no issues with personal vehicle placement.

History & Facts

The history of Sky Dream is full of incredible journeys: this Ferris wheel was originally built and opened in 2001 in the Japanese city of Fukuoka. In Japan, it was known as Sky Dream Fukuoka and at the time was the tallest in the country, becoming an important symbol for tourism development in the prefecture.

After the Japanese park closed in 2009, the giant structure was completely dismantled and transported by sea to Taiwan. The reconstruction process in Taichung began in 2014 and required incredible precision — it was the first project of this scale fully implemented by Taiwanese engineers without the involvement of foreign specialists.

The grand opening of the renovated attraction took place on May 13, 2017. The cost of the relocation and modernization project was approximately 55 million Taiwan dollars, and today "Sky Dream" is rightfully considered the heart of Taiwan and an icon of the local skyline.

Time Needed

To fully enjoy your ride on Sky Dream, it is recommended to set aside 1 to 2 hours. The wheel rotation itself takes about 25–30 minutes, but you should allow extra time for queuing, purchasing tickets, and taking memorable photos against the backdrop of the majestic structure.

If you plan to combine the ride with a visit to the Lihpao Outlet Mall or neighboring entertainment zones, it is better to allocate half a day (about 3–4 hours) for the visit. This will allow you to have lunch at one of the local restaurants and stroll through the park's scenic alleys without rushing.
