The park is a harmonious blend of history and modernity. Here, ancient alleys stand alongside modern leisure zones, and the rich collection of flora is striking in its diversity. While walking through the grounds, you can encounter such rare plants as the Canadian hemlock, tulip tree, and ginkgo biloba, making the park a true open-air museum.

Beyond its natural beauty, Shevchenko Park attracts visitors with its architectural forms: it features a fountain, a summer theater, and elegant sculptural compositions. It is the perfect place for those seeking solitude in the lap of nature without leaving the limits of the bustling city.

What to Do

A visit to the park offers guests many leisure options. Nature lovers will appreciate a walk through the botanical garden, where unique plants planted back in the 19th century have been preserved. The shade of long-lived beeches and magnolias creates ideal conditions for leisurely contemplation and an escape from the city bustle.

For families with children and active leisure enthusiasts, Shevchenko Park features an amusement park complex, as well as modern sports and playgrounds. During the warmer months, the park becomes the city's main stage: the summer theater frequently hosts concerts, festivals, and other cultural events.

Don't forget to stop by the fountain and the famous "Heart of Love" sculpture. These locations have long been traditional meeting spots and popular for romantic photo sessions. The clean air, well-kept alleys, and abundance of benches make the park a wonderful place for reading a book or chatting with friends.

Getting There

Thanks to its central location, reaching Shevchenko Park is quite easy. If you are staying in the city center, a walk to the main entrance will take very little time and allow you to enjoy the architecture of the old quarters along the way.

For those who prefer public transport, buses and minibuses regularly run toward Sadova Street. The stops are located in the immediate vicinity of the park entrance, which is convenient for tourists with children or elderly travelers.

If you are arriving in Chernivtsi by train, the journey from the railway station to the park by taxi or public transport takes about 15–20 minutes. For visitors arriving in their own cars, there are parking zones available around the park.

History & Facts

The history of this green oasis began back in 1830. It was then that, on the initiative of district engineer Adolf Marin and city architect Andreas Mikulicz, the transformation of a natural forest area into a landscaped park began.

The park's creators performed a colossal amount of work: more than 35,000 trees and ornamental shrubs were planted. Notably, many rare plant species were brought from various corners of Europe to create a unique botanical ensemble in Chernivtsi.

Over nearly two centuries, Shevchenko Park has undergone several renovations but has maintained its status as the city's main cultural space. Today, it is officially recognized as a monument of landscape architecture and is protected by the state as an important historical heritage site.

Time Needed

To explore Shevchenko Park at a leisurely pace, it is recommended to set aside 1.5 to 3 hours. This is quite enough for a peaceful walk along the main alleys, studying rare tree species, and relaxing by the fountain.

If you plan to visit the botanical garden, check out the amusement rides, or have a small photo session by the sculptures, it is better to plan for half a day. The park is conducive to long rests, so many guests prefer to spend entire weekends here, enjoying the fresh air and tranquility.

Working Hours

The park grounds are open for walks daily. Official operating hours are from 5:00 AM to 11:00 PM, allowing you to enjoy a morning run or a quiet evening stroll.

Please note that infrastructure facilities, such as the amusement rides and the summer theater, operate on individual schedules. They are usually open to visitors from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, especially during the warm season when park activity reaches its peak.
