In the very heart of the historical part of Chernivtsi lies one of the most atmospheric and ancient spots — St. Mary's Square (also known as Turkish Square). This cozy location in Ukraine represents a harmonious blend of architectural monuments from different eras, reflecting the multinational history of the region.

The central feature of the square is the legendary Turkish Well — the oldest source of drinking water in the city, topped by an elegant oriental-style pavilion. Other interesting details are concentrated around it: the monumental 19th-century Turkish Bridge, an original floral clock on the hill, and a fountain designed in the best traditions of Roman classics.
Following a major reconstruction in 2008 to mark the city's 600th anniversary, the square was transformed into a modern public space. Today, it is not only a historical site but also a favorite leisure spot with well-kept terraces, wrought-iron lanterns, and stone steps that are beautifully illuminated in the evening.
