History & Facts

The history of this green space began in 1950. Interestingly, Taras Shevchenko Park was established on the site of the former Seret River floodplain, which used to be regularly flooded during high water. To turn the swampy area into a cozy recreation zone, the ground had to be significantly raised by filling it with chernozem and construction materials.

Landscaping work was carried out with great enthusiasm: city residents and municipal services often worked in several shifts, planting trees and shrubs en masse. The official and grand opening of the park took place on July 19, 1953, and it was then that it was named after the great Kobzar.

Over time, the infrastructure evolved: a summer stage, charming bridges, fountains, and even a summer cinema appeared. Despite numerous renovations, the park has managed to preserve its unique atmosphere and status as the city's main cultural center, remaining a favorite spot for many generations of citizens.

Time Needed

To take a leisurely stroll through the main alleys and visit the islands, a typical visitor will need about 2–3 hours. This time is quite enough to get acquainted with the landscapes and main monuments.

If you plan to combine your walk with attending cultural events at the summer stage, relaxing on the beach, or taking a boat trip, you should set aside half a day or even a full weekend day for the visit.

Working Hours

Taras Shevchenko Park is hospitably open to residents and guests round the clock (Open 24 hours) every day of the week: from Monday to Sunday. This allows you to enjoy morning jogs at dawn or romantic walks under the starry sky.

Entry to the park is free. Keep in mind that private facilities, such as cafes, attractions, or boat rental points, have their own operating schedules, which may change depending on the season and weather conditions.
