What to Do

Visitors to the park can enjoy an incredible variety of leisure activities, ranging from peaceful walks to active sports. One of the main highlights is the preserved historical elements, such as the powder tower and the stone arcade of the old fortress, which allow you to literally touch the city's past.

For those seeking excitement, there is an amusement park zone on the grounds, suitable for all ages. Sports fans can visit the modern stadium, which hosts football matches and other events. Additionally, the park often becomes a focal point during large-scale festivals and public celebrations, filling with music and vibrant colors.

Don't miss the opportunity to head down from the park straight to the sea. Convenient paths and alleys lead to the coast, making this spot perfect for summer relaxation. The viewing platforms offer impressive panoramic views of the commercial port, where you can watch the movement of massive ships and port cranes.

Getting There

Getting to this picturesque spot is easy, as it is located in close proximity to the city's historical center. The main entrances to the park are situated on Marazliivska and Uspenska streets. From the central part of the city, you can reach it on foot in about 15–20 minutes, enjoying the historic architecture of the surrounding neighborhoods.

For those who prefer public transport, there are trolleybus routes and numerous minibuses (marshrutkas) connecting the park with other districts. History & Facts

The history of this area dates back over 200 years, when the Turkish defensive line of Khadjibey was located on the high bank. After its capture in 1795, a powerful fortress was erected here, with the famous commander Alexander Suvorov participating in its design and construction. The fortress served as an important outpost but existed for less than 20 years: the border moved southwest, and the fortification was abolished in 1811.

In subsequent decades, the territory was used for the needs of the Quarantine. It housed a quarantine yard, a hospital, and even cemeteries, while the former barracks were turned into prison premises. The first plan to create a public garden here was proposed by architect Franz Boffo back in 1840, but for a long time, the area remained neglected, although it was marked on maps as the "Fortress Garden."

The official birth of the park took place only on September 7, 1875. This was made possible thanks to the efforts of the city mayor, Grigory Marazli, who received the highest permission from Emperor Alexander II. In honor of this visit, the park was initially named Alexander Park, eventually becoming the primary recreation spot for the city's residents.

Time Needed

To leisurely walk through the main alleys and see the historical monuments, an average visitor will need about 1 to 2 hours. This is enough for an introductory stroll and a visit to the viewing platforms overlooking the port.

If you plan to visit the stadium, enjoy the amusement rides, or descend the shady slopes to the sea itself, it is worth setting aside half a day. The park is conducive to long periods of relaxation, offering many leisure options for adults and children at any time of the year.

Working Hours

A huge advantage of this attraction is its accessibility at any time. The park territory is open to visitors around the clock (24 hours a day) every day of the week: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

This schedule allows guests of the city to plan their leisure time as flexibly as possible: whether it's an early morning workout or a peaceful evening stroll under the lamplight. It is worth noting that individual facilities within the grounds, such as amusement rides or cafes, may operate according to their own schedules.
