What to Do

In Copou Park, everyone will find something to their liking. Start your visit with a leisurely walk along the main alley, which will lead you to the famous “Obelisk with Lions”—a majestic monument that has become a symbol of the region's administrative history. The surrounding silence is perfect for reflection and contemplation.

Special attention should be paid to Mihai Eminescu’s Lime Tree. This tree, steeped in legend, has become a true symbol of Romanian poetry. You can often find creative people nearby looking for inspiration. Don't miss the chance to stop by the Mihai Eminescu Museum, located within the park, to see rare exhibits dedicated to the life of the great author.

If your visit coincides with the weekend, you will likely encounter one of the craft fairs or poetry readings. For nature lovers, the park offers a unique collection of rare trees, and a walk along the “Junimea” alley allows you to feel the atmosphere of the intellectual gatherings of past centuries.

Getting There

Located on a picturesque hill, Copou Park is situated approximately 2 kilometers from the historical city center. It is easily accessible by public transport: trams and buses run regularly to the “Parcul Copou” stop, which is just a few steps from the main entrance.

For those who prefer comfort, a taxi ride from the central squares will take no more than 10 minutes. If you enjoy walking, the route along Carol I Boulevard will allow you to enjoy the architecture of the university campus as you gradually make your way up to the park area.

Parking zones are available nearby for motorists; however, keep in mind that finding a free spot can be challenging on weekends and holidays due to the park's popularity with locals.

History & Facts

The history of this green oasis began in 1834 during the reign of the Prince of Moldavia, Mihail Sturdza. Initially, the park occupied a significantly larger area—about 19 hectares—but over time its boundaries narrowed to the current 10 hectares, while maintaining its status as the oldest public park in the region.

One of the most remarkable historical objects here is the “Obelisk with Lions.” Erected in the year the park was founded, it was dedicated to the introduction of the Regulamentul Organic—the first document that laid the foundations for the modern administrative structure of the Romanian principalities. This 13.5-meter-high monument remains an important symbol of the city.

A special atmosphere is given to the park by Mihai Eminescu’s Lime Tree, which is estimated to be over 500 years old. This tree has become a true site of pilgrimage for literature lovers, as it was here that the great Romanian poet drew inspiration for his works. Over time, the park has transformed into a living monument, blending natural majesty with national cultural heritage.

Time Needed

To take a leisurely stroll through the shaded alleys, see the historical monuments, and take memorable photos, you usually need between 1.5 and 3 hours. This is the optimal amount of time for an introductory visit.

If you plan to visit the Mihai Eminescu Museum or want to spend time at one of the craft fairs often held here, we recommend setting aside half a day. This will allow you to enjoy the park's calm pace without any rush.

Working Hours

For the convenience of visitors, Copou Park is open daily and around the clock. You can enjoy a walk both in the morning sunlight and by the light of the evening lanterns; entry to the grounds is free.

Please note that facilities inside the park, such as the Mihai Eminescu Museum, operate on their own schedules. Most of these cultural sites are open during the day, so plan your visit to them in advance.
