Current Weather

Planning a trip? Here you'll find the most up-to-date weather information for Ba Ria to ensure your journey through Vietnam is perfect. Check the current conditions and a detailed forecast for the coming days below.

Overview

The climate in Ba Ria is typical of southern Vietnam and is characterized as tropical monsoon. It is warm year-round, with the weather clearly divided into two periods: the dry season and the rainy season. Thanks to its proximity to the South China Sea, the city often enjoys a refreshing sea breeze that tempers the tropical heat.

From November to April, the region sees sunny and relatively dry weather, which is considered the best time to visit. During this period, humidity is at its lowest and rain is a rare occurrence. From May to October, the wet season arrives, bringing lush tropical greenery and regular, though usually brief, showers.

One of the main features of the local weather is its stable temperature regime. Unlike the northern regions of the country, there are no cold winters here, and the average sea temperature remains comfortable for swimming almost 365 days a year.

Temperature

The temperature in Ba Ria is remarkably consistent: the thermometer rarely drops below +23°C even at night. The hottest period is traditionally April and May, when daytime highs reach +32°C...+33°C. Combined with high humidity, this creates a true tropical greenhouse atmosphere, much appreciated by fans of exotic travel.

The "winter" months of December and January bring the most comfortable conditions for walking. During the day, the air warms up to +29°C...+30°C, while the nighttime cool of around +23°C provides a welcome break from the daytime heat. Daily temperature fluctuations are about 8–10 degrees, making evenings in the city exceptionally pleasant for visiting restaurants and promenades.

The sea water off the coast remains warm year-round. During the dry season, its temperature is about +26°C...+28°C, and in the summer months, it can reach an impressive +30°C...+31°C. This makes the region an ideal place for swimming regardless of the calendar, though the calmest seas are observed from November to April.

Precipitation

Precipitation in Ba Ria follows a strict monsoon schedule. The bulk of the rain falls between May and October. The peak of the wet season occurs in August, September, and October, when heavy tropical downpours can happen almost daily. These are usually powerful but brief bursts lasting 1–2 hours, quickly giving way to bright sunshine.

In contrast, the period from December to March is the driest. In February and March, rain is a rare event (with only about 10–16 mm of precipitation), and the number of dry days per month reaches 26–27. This is the perfect time for those who don't want the weather to interfere with their sightseeing plans.

The average annual rainfall in the region is about 2000 mm. It’s important to remember that even in the height of the rainy season, the sky rarely stays overcast all day — the tropical sun quickly dries the streets, leaving behind only freshness and the vibrant green of the surrounding forests.

Packing Tips

For a trip to Ba Ria, your wardrobe should be as light as possible. Focus on items made from natural, breathable fabrics such as cotton or linen. Don’t forget sunglasses, a wide-brimmed hat, and high-factor sunscreen (SPF 50+), as the tropical sun is very intense even on cloudy days. A light long-sleeved layer might be useful for evening walks by the sea or when traveling in air-conditioned transport.

If your trip is planned for the period from May to October, be sure to pack a compact raincoat or a high-quality umbrella. Quick-drying clothes and open footwear that can handle puddles are also practical at this time. Insect repellent is another essential, especially if you plan on spending evenings outdoors or going on nature excursions.

For active leisure and visiting temples, bring clothing that covers your shoulders and knees as a sign of respect for local traditions. A versatile kit also includes comfortable sandals for the city and a small personal first-aid kit with sun protection and allergy medication to ensure you stay comfortable in any season.
