Overview

The climate in Thu Duc City is typical of southern Vietnam—it is a classic tropical climate with a clear division of the year into two main periods. Temperatures remain consistently high throughout all twelve months, so the main factor determining the weather is the rainfall pattern.

The dry season lasts from November to April and is considered the most favorable time for tourism. During these months, the sun shines brightly, and humidity remains at a relatively comfortable level. From May to October, the rainy season arrives, bringing heavy tropical downpours and increased humidity, which, however, gives the local landscapes a particularly lush green color.

Temperature

The temperature in this part of the country is characterized by enviable consistency: the thermometer rarely drops below +23°C even at night, and during the day it stays steadily between +30...+34°C. The most intense heat usually hits Thu Duc City in April and May, when daytime figures can reach peaks of +36°C. During this period, the air feels particularly thick and warm.

The "winter" season, falling in December and January, brings long-awaited relief. Although daytime temperatures still hover around +30°C, the nighttime coolness allows for a comfortable break from the midday sun. Daily temperature fluctuations of 6–8 degrees are typical for these latitudes and are felt quite clearly, especially during the dry season when the lack of cloud cover promotes rapid cooling of the air after sunset.

Precipitation

Precipitation in the region is distributed very unevenly depending on the time of year. If you plan your visit for March or April, you will experience the driest months, when rain is very rare and the sky remains mostly clear. During this period, rainfall is minimal, making outdoor walks most enjoyable.

A dramatic change of scenery occurs in Thu Duc City in May with the arrival of the monsoons. The peak of humidity occurs from July to October. Traditionally, September is considered the "wettest" month, with more than 300 mm of precipitation recorded, and the number of rainy days can reach 28 per month. Tropical downpours here are usually short-lived but very intense, often accompanied by thunderstorms.

Packing Tips

When packing for your trip to Vietnam, prioritize clothing made from natural fabrics such as cotton or linen. This will help your skin "breathe" in the high tropical humidity. Regardless of the season, sunglasses, a wide-brimmed hat, and high-factor SPF sunscreen should be your constant companions—the sun in these latitudes is extremely intense even on cloudy days.

For walking around Thu Duc City, light and open footwear is ideal; however, a closed pair is recommended for the evening to protect against insects. If you plan to visit temples and sacred sites, be sure to bring clothes that cover your shoulders and knees. Even during the dry season, it is worth packing a compact raincoat in case of unexpected showers, and mosquito repellent will certainly not be extra in your travel first-aid kit.
