The Cathedral Basilica of Mercedes-Luján is an architectural gem rising in the center of the city of Mercedes. This majestic Catholic temple, officially known as the Cathedral of Our Lady of Mercy, is not just a religious center but a recognized National Historic Monument that graces the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Built in a graceful Neo-Gothic style, the cathedral impresses with its strict vertical lines, high concrete vaults, and a magnificent central tower adorned with a rose window and pointed arches. Its Latin cross floor plan and monumental buttresses make the building resemble classic European cathedrals, bringing a spirit of the "Old World" to the Argentine Pampas.
Inside the temple, an atmosphere of solemn tranquility prevails. Elements of the interior brought from Europe are of particular value: Italian altars, an elaborate pulpit, and a powerful German organ by the Walcker company. In the crypt beneath the main altar lie the patrons Saturnino Unzué and Inés Dorrego, whose donations allowed for the creation of this masterpiece, which has become the spiritual heart of the "Pearl of the West."
