Brisbane

Getting There: Introduction

Brisbane is the dynamic capital of Queensland in Australia, renowned for its subtropical climate and friendly atmosphere. This modern metropolis on the riverbanks is a major transport hub, easily accessible by plane, train, or car, making it the perfect starting point to explore the continent's unique nature.

By Plane

The main air gateway to the region is the international Brisbane Airport (BNE), receiving flights from all over the world and serving millions of passengers annually. It is located just a few kilometres from the centre, making flying the most convenient way to reach the city.

Alternatively, you can consider flying into neighbouring cities: Gold Coast (66 km) or Sunshine Coast (91 km), which also receive numerous flights. For domestic travel, the airport in Toowoomba, located slightly further inland, is sometimes convenient.

Travel Tips

To ensure your trip to the Queensland capital goes perfectly, we have compiled a list of important recommendations that will help you feel confident from your very first minutes of stay.

  1. Sun Protection. The sun in Australia is extremely active. Always wear a hat, sunglasses, and use cream with high SPF, even if it is cloudy outside.
  2. Transport Card. To save on fares for buses, trains, and CityCat ferries, purchase a Go Card. It is valid throughout the South East Queensland region.
  3. Finances. The currency is the Australian Dollar (AUD). Bank cards are accepted everywhere, but a small amount of cash may be useful at markets.
  4. Water Safety. It is strictly not recommended to swim in the Brisbane River due to strong currents and the presence of bull sharks. For swimming, use the artificial beach, Streets Beach, in the South Bank area.
  5. Language and Communication. The official language is English. Locals are very friendly, though they often use slang that might be unfamiliar to tourists.
  6. Electricity. You will need Type I sockets (three flat pins). Do not forget to bring or buy a suitable adapter locally.
  7. Dinner Time. Please note that the kitchens of many restaurants close quite early, around 21:00–21:30. Plan your evening meals in advance to ensure you dine comfortably.
  8. Clothing. The clothing style here is relaxed and casual. Light natural fabrics are best, but it is worth bringing a light jacket for evenings by the river.

Following these simple rules will allow you to avoid minor inconveniences and fully immerse yourself in exploring this sunny and hospitable city.
