About

A journey into the region's heroic past is incomplete without visiting the Gomel Regional Museum of Military Glory. The museum's exhibition is masterfully divided into two parts: informative indoor halls and an impressive open-air area. Thousands of artifacts telling the story of Gomel's military history are housed in eight thematic halls across two floors. The total exhibition space exceeds 780 square meters, allowing for a detailed presentation of the soldiers' journey from ancient times to the present day.

The museum takes particular pride in its hardware collection: more than 40 units of weaponry, including tanks, aircraft, and cannons, are displayed in the outdoor area. Unique objects, such as a historical medical train car and a reconstructed dugout, complement the atmosphere, allowing visitors to literally touch the everyday life of the military years.

What to Do

A large-scale panorama of military history unfolds before you in the museum halls. Here, you can see rare collections of cold weapons and firearms, examine the details of uniforms from different eras, and study authentic medals. Personal belongings of soldiers, such as triangular front-line letters and identification capsules, carry profound emotional value and offer a living connection to the past.

Be sure to head to the outdoor area, which houses an impressive collection of military hardware. Here, you can not only see legendary machines up close but also visit the special "Partisan Village" exhibition. Fans of interactive experiences will appreciate the chance to test their accuracy at the local shooting range or explore the interior of a real medical train.

If you have time left, it is worth visiting the museum's branches. One is dedicated to criminology, featuring over 700 exhibits ranging from early facial composites to investigators' offices. For those wishing to immerse themselves in the forest atmosphere of the resistance, the "Partisanskaya Krinichka" complex is located in the suburbs.

The museum is located at 5 Pushkin Street, in the very heart of Gomel. Thanks to its central location, it is easily accessible by both private and public transport.

History & Facts

The history of this unique site began in 2004. The decision to establish the museum was made in anticipation of a major milestone—the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus. The formation of the open-air military hardware collection began early that year, and just a few months later, the first visitors were able to see the initial exhibition.

The ceremonial opening of the military-historical part of the complex took place on April 26, 2005, with the participation of the President. The full museum complex opened its doors to the general public on February 23, 2006, becoming an independent cultural institution after separating from the regional local history museum.

The museum continues to evolve: in 2022, after a major reconstruction, its branch—the military-historical complex "Partisanskaya Krinichka"—was opened. Among the unique exhibits in the main collection, a rare document deserves special attention: the German "Order No. 1" regarding the start of military operations in Western Europe, donated to the museum by a private individual.

Time Needed

To leisurely explore all eight halls of the main exhibition and study the weapon and document collections in detail, you will need about 1.5–2 hours. The indoor display spans two floors and covers a vast period, so it is worth taking the time to read the information stands.

If you also plan to explore the open-air area with heavy military hardware, visit the medical train car, and check out the shooting range, we recommend setting aside at least 3 hours for your visit. For visiting remote branches like "Partisanskaya Krinichka," it is best to allocate a separate half-day.

Working Hours

The Museum of Military Glory welcomes visitors daily, which is very convenient for tourists planning their schedules. The institution's doors are open every day of the week—from Monday to Sunday.

Standard operating hours: from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM (11:00 – 18:00). Please note that entry to the museum and ticket office operations may end slightly earlier than the official closing time.
