General Weather Overview

The climate of Wuzhou can be described as humid subtropical, with a large number of warm days. In general, the weather here is quite mild: winters are short and not at all severe, while summers are long and hot. Thanks to this temperature pattern, the region's nature remains picturesque year-round, although tourists should take into account the high humidity characteristic of this part of China.

The most distinct weather phenomenon is the rainy season, which covers spring and summer. Between May and August, the number of rainy days reaches its peak (often more than 20 days per month), and the average temperature hovers around 26–29°C. This time of year can feel quite muggy, so light breathable clothing and an umbrella will become mandatory companions for the traveller.

Autumn and early winter bring pleasant coolness and a noticeable decrease in precipitation. October and November are considered one of the most comfortable periods for a visit: the temperature settles at 20–23°C, and rains occur much less frequently. Even in the coldest months, January and December, the thermometer rarely drops below 9–10°C, allowing for comfortable sightseeing without heavy winter clothing.

Temperature

The temperature regime in Wuzhou is characterized by mildness in the winter period and palpable heat in summer. The annual minimum usually falls in January, which is considered the coldest month: the average temperature is about 13.6°C, and night-time figures rarely drop below 9°C. Winter here passes without severe frosts, remaining cool but comfortable for travellers who prefer to avoid extreme weather conditions.

Summer in the region is long and hot. The temperature peak occurs in July, when the air warms up during the day to an average of 32.4°C. June and August are also characterized by high figures, with average temperatures around 28–29°C. Given the large number of rainy days during this period, the summer heat is often accompanied by high humidity, creating a "sauna-like" effect.

Diurnal temperature fluctuations in Wuzhou are quite pronounced. The difference between the daily maximum and nightly minimum is usually 6–8 degrees. For example, in October, after a warm day (about 27°C), evening freshness sets in as the thermometer drops to 19°C. This makes spring and autumn the most favourable seasons for long walks around the city, allowing you to enjoy warmth during the day and coolness in the evening.

Precipitation

In Wuzhou, precipitation patterns are closely linked to the changing seasons, with snow being an exceptional phenomenon here due to mild winter temperatures. The majority of moisture falls as rain during the warm season. Travellers should note that spring and summer here are distinguished by high cloudiness and frequent precipitation, while autumn and early winter offer more stable and dry weather.

The peak of the rainy season falls between May and August. The wettest month by frequency of precipitation is June, when up to 24 rainy days are recorded. In May and August, an umbrella will also be necessary almost daily. Despite the high frequency of rains in the summer period, their total volume remains moderate, often manifesting as regular but not overly heavy rainfall.

The driest period occurs at the end of the year. December is considered the month with the least water: on average, there are only about 4 days with precipitation and a minimal amount of rainfall (about 1 mm). October and November are also relatively dry (about 8 rainy days), making mid-autumn and early winter a comfortable time for those who prefer to avoid dampness during walks.

What to Pack

When planning a trip to Wuzhou, it is important to consider the region's humid subtropical climate. If your journey falls during the warm season from May to September, when the temperature often holds around 30°C, opt for light clothing made of natural breathable fabrics, such as cotton and linen. Since the greatest number of rainy days is observed in these months (up to 24 days a month!), be sure to bring a compact but sturdy umbrella or a high-quality raincoat that fits easily into a backpack.

Winter in Wuzhou is mild, without severe frosts: even in January, the temperature rarely drops below 9°C. However, for comfortable walks between November and March, as well as on cool evenings, it is best to use the layering principle. You should pack jeans, several sweatshirts or jumpers, as well as a light mid-season jacket or windbreaker to protect against wind and potential rain.

Regardless of the season, the main element of your wardrobe should be comfortable, worn-in walking shoes, as you will be doing a lot of walking. In the summer months, do not forget sun protection: a hat, sunglasses, and SPF cream are mandatory, as the sun can be quite active. It is also useful to have a small daypack for water and personal items during excursions.
