The main highlight of BRLO Brwhouse is its innovative modular architecture. The building is entirely constructed from 38 repurposed shipping containers sourced from all over the world. This structure not only looks striking but is also mobile – if necessary, the brewery can be dismantled and moved to a new location. The containers, painted in a sleek anthracite color that emphasizes the design's industrial character, are arranged in a configuration four containers long and three high, creating an impressive space ranging from 600 to nearly 900 square meters.

A visit to BRLO Brwhouse is an opportunity not only to taste freshly brewed beer straight from the source but also to dive into the atmosphere of modern, dynamic Berlin. Here you can watch the brewing process, enjoy delicious food that pairs perfectly with the brews, or simply have a great time with friends in the beer garden, especially in warm weather. This spot attracts both locals and tourists with its informal approach and high-quality products.

History & Facts

The history of BRLO Brwhouse began in 2014 with what seemed like a "crazy idea" born during a friendly conversation over beers. That's when Katharina Kurz, Michael Lembke, and Ben Pommer decided to found one of Berlin's most interesting craft breweries. The name "BRLO" is the ancient Slavic name for the city, which, as the founders joke, becomes easier to pronounce after a few glasses of their signature brew. To this day, the founders continue to enthusiastically bring their vision of modern beer diversity to life.

Initially, BRLO did not have its own production facilities and rented equipment from friendly breweries. However, as its popularity and recognition among craft beer connoisseurs grew, the founders' desire to create their own unique space strengthened. This drive led to the search for a suitable location and the development of a concept for the future home of BRLO Brwhouse.

In 2016, the dream began to take shape: construction of BRLO's first own brewery started on a vacant lot in the heart of the Kreuzberg district. BRLO Brwhouse officially opened in January 2017. The building was designed by the renowned architectural firm GRAFT, which already had experience creating similar container structures in Seoul (2009) and Berlin (2012). The building's uniqueness lies not only in its modular design but also in its mobility: it was designed for temporary use (3-5 years) with the possibility of easy dismantling and reassembly at a new location if necessary. This approach perfectly reflects the dynamic and modern spirit of both the BRLO brand and the city of Berlin.

Time Needed

When planning a visit to BRLO Brwhouse, you should allow for 1-3 hours. However, the exact time you spend here will depend on your interests and how deeply you want to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of this unique spot in Berlin. Some might stop by for a quick glass of freshly brewed beer, while others may prefer to spend an entire evening enjoying not only the variety of drinks but also the cuisine and the venue's special atmosphere.

If your main goal is simply to try a few local craft beers and appreciate the original design of the brewery made from shipping containers, one hour might be enough. For a more thorough experience, which might include tasting different beers, ordering from the restaurant menu, and leisurely socializing in the beer garden (especially pleasant in good weather), it's better to set aside 2-3 hours or even a bit more. The opportunity to watch the brewing process, if available during your visit, will also add time but will undoubtedly enrich your experience.

Sometimes BRLO Brwhouse hosts special events like concerts, themed parties, or beer festivals. Such events can significantly extend your stay and make it even more intense and memorable. Therefore, if you want to get the most out of your visit, it's a good idea to check the event calendar on the official BRLO Brwhouse website in advance. In any case, this place is perfect for spending time enjoyably and without haste.

Working Hours

To ensure your visit to BRLO Brwhouse goes smoothly, it's important to check the current opening hours in advance. There, you can also find out about any possible changes to the restaurant and beer garden schedule, the latter being especially popular during the warmer months.

BRLO Brwhouse is generally open to visitors year-round. However, given the popularity of this spot in Berlin, especially in the evenings and on weekends, it's recommended to book a table in advance if you plan to have dinner or come with a large group. For visiting the bar or beer garden, a prior reservation is usually not required, but it's always best to check the latest information on the official BRLO Brwhouse resources or contact them directly to avoid misunderstandings and ensure an enjoyable experience.
