History & Facts

The history of the venue began in the late 1990s when the need for a modern multi-purpose complex first arose. However, decisive steps were not taken until 2007, when city authorities chose a site at the former Volksfestplatz in Neu-Ulm to realize this ambitious project.

Construction proceeded at a rapid pace: the first symbolic groundbreaking took place on May 19, 2010, and just 19 months later, the arena was ready for operation. The project cost approximately €27.5 million and stands as a successful example of cooperation between two neighboring municipalities.

The official opening took place on December 9, 2011, and was a grand celebration featuring famous artists such as Max Raabe and DJ Bobo. The very next day, the first basketball match was held, where the home team secured a victory in front of 6,000 enthusiastic fans.

Since then, the Ratiopharm Arena has repeatedly witnessed significant events, from Davis Cup matches to the local basketball club's triumphant championship in the German league. Today, it remains the most important cultural and sporting hub for the entire region.

For those attending conferences or seminars, the visit may take up most of the day.
