What to Do

The main experience that draws visitors here is, undoubtedly, the ascent to a height of 50 meters. In each of the 30 gondolas, you can take a leisurely rotation, during which a panorama of all of Győr unfolds before you. This is a great opportunity to view the unique confluence of rivers, the bridges, and the city's lively squares from above.

Photography enthusiasts should have their cameras ready: views of Rado Island and the towers of historic churches are particularly impressive from this vantage point. The Ferris wheel creates a romantic atmosphere, making it a popular spot for dates, as well as a comfortable leisure option for families with children.

After the ride, you can continue your walk around Dunakapu Square, which often hosts city events and fairs. Combining a ride on this modern attraction with a stroll through the historic center allows you to get the most out of your visit to Győr.

Getting There

The attraction is located in the center of Győr on Dunakapu Square (Dunakapu tér 3), so it is easiest to reach on foot from the city's main landmarks. Győr itself is situated in the northwestern part of the country and is easily accessible from Budapest by train or bus—the journey takes about 1.5–2 hours.

If you are arriving from Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport, you should take a train or bus to the Győr railway station (Győr vasútállomás). From there, you can take city trams No. 1 or No. 2 to a stop closer to the center, followed by a 10–15 minute walk toward the river.

For those traveling by car, the route from Budapest follows the M1 motorway (approximately 120 km). Paid parking is available in the city center, though please note that Dunakapu Square itself is a pedestrian zone.

History & Facts

The Győr Ferris Wheel first appeared in the city in 2018. Its installation was part of a major initiative to promote Győr as a candidate for the title of European Capital of Culture 2023. The official opening of the attraction took place on November 9, 2018, and became a true city-wide celebration.

Several local celebrities participated in the grand launch ceremony: actor Csaba Bede-Fazekas, singer Bogi Dallos, and professional BMX rider Konrád Szabó. Music was provided by singer Mariót Wiki and the group Nova Kultúr Zenekar, creating an unforgettable atmosphere for the first passengers.

Although the wheel functioned as a temporary structure and was dismantled in 2020, it left a significant mark on the city's tourism scene. Plans for its return have been discussed repeatedly in local media, as the attraction became one of the most recognizable symbols of modern Győr.

Time Needed

To enjoy a ride on the Ferris wheel, it is usually enough to set aside 30 to 60 minutes. This time is sufficient to pass through the queue, complete a full rotation in the cabin, and take panoramic photos of the city from a bird's-eye view.

If you plan to combine your visit with a leisurely walk around Dunakapu Square and a break at a nearby cafe, you should allocate about 1–1.5 hours for the visit. This will allow you to soak in the rhythm of life in Győr without any rush.

Working Hours

The operating hours of the Ferris wheel may vary depending on the season and weather conditions. Since the operation of the attraction is directly dependent on technical regulations and city events, access hours may be restricted during the winter period or in high winds.

For up-to-date information on the current schedule and ticket prices, we recommend that visitors check the official website or the attraction's social media pages before their trip.
