Current Weather

Planning a trip to Yopougon? In this section, you will find up-to-date weather information and detailed forecasts to help you perfectly plan every day of your journey through Côte d'Ivoire.

Overview

Yopougon, located in the southern part of Côte d'Ivoire, features a typical equatorial humid climate. Tropical summer reigns here year-round with high humidity, usually ranging between 83–85%. Temperatures remain remarkably stable, creating an atmosphere of constant warmth.

There are two clearly defined rainy seasons and a dry period throughout the year. The main rainfall occurs from April to July, with a shorter period in October and November. The dry season, lasting from December to February, is considered the most comfortable time to visit, as the influence of oceanic air brings relative relief from the heat.

A characteristic feature of the local climate is the intense downpours and thunderstorms during the rainy months, which are often followed by bright sunny periods. Despite the heavy rainfall, daytime temperatures never drop to low levels, making the climate typical for the coastal equatorial zones of West Africa.

Temperature

Temperatures in Yopougon are characterized by enviable consistency: annual average figures vary within a narrow range from +26°C to +29°C. The hottest period is from January to March. During these months, daytime temperatures often reach +31°C to +32°C, while nights remain warm at around +25°C.

August can be called relatively "cool," with average daytime temperatures of about +27°C and nighttime lows dropping to +23°C. However, due to high humidity, even such temperatures are perceived as quite hot. Daily fluctuations between day and night are minimal and usually do not exceed 4–7 degrees, which is typical for the equatorial zone.

Thanks to the influence of the ocean, the city experiences almost no extreme temperature spikes. The absence of sudden weather changes allows tourists to feel comfortable when choosing their wardrobe, as stable warmth is guaranteed at any time of year. Even during rainy periods, the air remains warm, bringing only a pleasant freshness after a downpour.

Precipitation

Precipitation plays a key role in shaping the climate of Yopougon. The year is divided into two wet periods: the main rainy season lasts from April to July, and a shorter one occurs in October and November. During these times, heavy downpours are often accompanied by powerful thunderstorms, which is normal for the Côte d'Ivoire coast.

June is traditionally the wettest month, when rainfall can exceed 320 mm and rainy days follow one after another. During this period, relative humidity reaches its peak at up to 88%, creating a "tropical greenhouse" effect. Nevertheless, the rains are often torrential, quickly giving way to clear spells.

January is considered the driest time, with minimal rainfall (about 60 mm). Snow is completely non-existent in this region, and hail is an extremely rare phenomenon. Travelers should remember that short showers are possible even during the dry season, so a light raincoat is never out of place in your travel bag.

Packing Tips

When packing for Yopougon, prioritize clothing made from natural fabrics such as cotton or linen. This will help your skin "breathe" in high humidity conditions. Light colors are most practical under the bright sun. Be sure to bring a sun hat, sunglasses, and a high-quality sunscreen with a high SPF.

If your trip falls during the rainy season (April–July or October–November), don't forget a compact umbrella or a light raincoat, as well as quick-drying shoes. Given the high humidity, clothes dry slowly, so it is worth taking several extra sets of undergarments. Open sandals and light sneakers for walking are practical choices.

An important addition to your luggage is insect repellent, which will come in handy in the evening. For a beach holiday, be sure to pack swimwear, as the water in the Gulf of Guinea remains warm at +23–28°C year-round. In the evening, a light long-sleeved shirt may be useful for protection against indoor air conditioning and mosquitoes outdoors.
