Located in the heart of the scenic Tokiwa Park, the Hokkaido Asahikawa Museum of Art is a true cultural treasure house of the northern region, opening its doors to all art enthusiasts. Founded in 1982, this museum has become a major landmark in the city of Asahikawa, offering guests a unique insight into the aesthetics of northern Japan.

The collection's crown jewel is inextricably linked to the region's natural riches. Given the proximity to the majestic Daisetsuzan Mountains and the area's rich woodworking traditions, the museum has made wood art its priority. Visitors can admire both elegant figurative sculptures and bold post-war abstract forms, showcased alongside traditional folk crafts.
In addition to wooden masterpieces, the galleries feature works by prominent artists from the Kamikawa, Rumoi, and Soya regions. The museum building itself is an architectural monument: its design, created by architect Yoshiya Tanue, reflects the style of Frank Lloyd Wright, making a visit worthwhile for the atmosphere of the space as much as for the exhibits themselves.
