The garden's history dates back to the 15th century, when Bernardine monks invited to Vilnius founded a monastery complex here and laid out the first gardens on what was previously marshland. Today, the famous architectural ensemble, including St. Anne's Church, can still be seen next to the park. Originally, this area housed monastic vegetable patches and an apothecary garden, which eventually transformed into a beautiful public space.
Today, Bernardine Garden is a meticulously maintained area, restored according to the park's late 19th-century historical appearance. Visitors can expect winding alleys, quiet ponds, rose gardens, and a musical fountain. The park also features a special botanical exposition, reminiscent of the famous Vilnius University Botanical Garden that once stood nearby. It is truly a wonderful place to escape the city noise, enjoy nature, and touch the centuries-old history of Vilnius.
