Labuan welcomes travellers with a classic equatorial climate: eternal summer reigns here, and the weather remains hot and humid throughout the year. Temperatures are surprisingly stable, with averages around 27–28°C, making the island an excellent destination for warmth lovers regardless of the season. Sharp temperature drops or pronounced cooling do not occur here, so you are unlikely to need warm clothes.

Although precipitation is characteristic of this region at any time, periods of calm and peak rains can be distinguished. The beginning of the year, especially February and March, is considered the most comfortable time to visit, as the number of rainy days decreases. Conversely, the last months of the year (especially October, November, and December) bring the monsoon season, when rains can occur almost daily, refreshing the tropical heat.

When planning a trip to Malaysia to visit this island, it is worth being prepared for high humidity and sudden tropical downpours even in relatively dry months. Such weather promotes the lush growth of exotic vegetation but requires the tourist to have a raincoat or umbrella in their luggage all year round.

Temperatures in Labuan are distinguished by surprising stability, characteristic of an equatorial climate. There is practically no familiar change of seasons here: eternal summer reigns year-round. The average air temperature fluctuates in a very narrow range — from 26.7°C to 28.1°C. The warmest month, according to statistics, is May, when daily maximums reach an average of 29.7°C. The "coolest" period can be conditionally called February; however, the difference compared to the hottest month is less than one and a half degrees, which is practically imperceptible to tourists.

Summer months (June, July, August) are characterized by steady warmth with stable figures around 27.8°C. This time can be described as hot and humid, without extreme heat, as the temperature rarely exceeds the 30-degree mark. The winter period in Labuan is not about frosts at all, but mild and comfortable weather. In December and January, the thermometer stays at the level of 27°C, creating ideal conditions for beach holidays and walks, while blizzards rage in the northern hemisphere.

A feature of the local climate is the minimal daily temperature fluctuation. The difference between the daily maximum and nightly minimum here is extremely small — usually only 2–3 degrees. For example, in May, the night temperature drops only to 26.5°C. This means that evenings and nights in Labuan remain very warm and stuffy, so you definitely won't need warm clothing for evening strolls.

The climate of Labuan is typical for the tropical latitudes of Malaysia: it is warm and humid all year round, and precipitation falls exclusively in the form of rain. There is no pronounced dry season in this region when precipitation stops completely; however, wetter and relatively dry periods can be distinguished during the year. Travellers should be prepared for the fact that rain here is a frequent and regular phenomenon.

The greatest amount of precipitation falls at the end of the year. The wettest month is October, when the maximum volume of precipitation and about 28 rainy days are recorded. November, December, and January are also distinguished by high humidity: in these months rain can fall practically daily (from 24 to 27 days with precipitation), which is worth considering when planning excursions and walks.

A relatively dry period, most favourable for a beach holiday, occurs in February and March. February is the driest month of the year: the number of days with precipitation decreases to 14, and the general moisture level reaches its minimum. In the period from April to September, the weather becomes changeable: rains occur regularly (on average 19–23 days a month), but often are short-lived, quickly being replaced by the sun.

Since Labuan is located in an equatorial climate zone, the weather here remains hot and humid year-round with an average temperature of about +27…+28 °C. The basis of your luggage should be light, loose-fitting clothing made of natural, breathable fabrics such as cotton, linen, or viscose. Give preference to light-coloured items that heat up less in the sun. Shorts, T-shirts, sundresses, and light shirts will be appropriate in any season; however, do not forget to grab one long-sleeved sweater or a light windbreaker for protection against the cool air in shopping centres and transport, where powerful air conditioners often work.

Special attention should be paid to protection from rain, as precipitation falls here often, and from October to December the number of rainy days can reach 27–28 per month. A compact folding umbrella or a light raincoat-poncho are mandatory items on the packing list. Footwear should be comfortable and practical: for long walks around the city and sights, light trainers or sandals that are securely fixed on the foot and dry quickly are suitable, and for a beach holiday — ordinary flip-flops.

Do not underestimate the power of the tropical sun, even if the sky is covered with clouds. Be sure to take sunscreen with a high protection factor (SPF 30–50), sunglasses, and a hat with a wide brim or a visor. Given the high humidity, things may take longer to dry than usual, so we recommend taking several changes of clothes with you. A waterproof case for your phone and documents will also come in handy so that a sudden tropical downpour does not catch you by surprise.
