History & Facts

The grand opening of the memorial took place on September 25, 1983, to coincide with a significant date—the 40th anniversary of the town's liberation. The honor of cutting the red ribbon was given to the Marshal of the Armored Forces, O. A. Losik, a renowned native of the Yartsevo region whose contribution to the history of tank forces cannot be overstated.

The T-34-85 tank itself was produced at the famous Factory No. 112 "Krasnoye Sormovo" between late 1944 and the spring of 1945. This modification of the legendary "thirty-four" became a symbol of the final stage of the war. A talented team led by architect Lev Kulikov worked on the monument's design, while the artistic bas-reliefs were created by Anatoly Chibisov and sculptor Albert Sergeyev.

Just a year after its installation, in May 1984, the site was officially recognized as a cultural heritage site of regional significance. Since then, it has served not only as a historical testament but also as an architectural landmark of the renovated town park, emphasizing the continuity of generations.

Time Needed

A full viewing of the monument and a walk through the adjacent park usually takes about 20–30 minutes. This is sufficient time to admire the details of the combat vehicle, examine the cast-iron plaques with the names of heroes, and take commemorative photos in front of the memorial.
