The Tower of Hercules (Torre de Hércules) is the main historical and cultural gem of the city of A Coruña, located in northwest Spain in the region of Galicia. This majestic lighthouse, built during the Roman Empire, is considered the oldest in the world that still properly performs its navigational function. Its uniqueness and historical value are recognized globally: in 2009, the Tower of Hercules was included in the UNESCO World Heritage list.
This monumental structure, standing 55 meters tall, rises proudly on a rocky peninsula that itself rises 57 meters above the turbulent waters of the Atlantic Ocean. This location not only ensures excellent visibility for ships but also offers breathtaking panoramic views of the coastline, which the Romans called the "Coast of Death" in ancient times due to frequent shipwrecks. The lighthouse was erected specifically to improve maritime safety.
