History & Facts

The history of this green oasis began in 1925. Initially, it was a modest space of just one hectare attached to the Institute of Public Education. However, thanks to the enthusiasm of its first director, Professor Nestor Teodorovych Gamorak, the garden began to develop rapidly, and within a year, its collection included more than five hundred plants.

An important milestone was October 1, 1930, when the garden was officially established as a separate research institution. In the mid-20th century, its significance was recognized at the state level: in 1963, it was granted the status of a nature monument of national importance, providing additional protection for its unique flora.

In 1983, its status was officially confirmed as the "Kamianets-Podilskyi State Botanical Garden." The modern history of the institution is inextricably linked to education—since 1996, the garden has functioned as a structural subdivision of the Podilskyi State Agrarian and Technical University, continuing the traditions of scientific enlightenment and biodiversity conservation.

Time Needed

For a complete introduction to the botanical garden, a typical visitor will need 2–3 hours. This is quite enough time to leisurely stroll along the main paths, read the information plaques, and enjoy the park's atmosphere.
