The climate in Yushan is classified as humid subtropical, providing the city with lush vegetation and vibrant landscapes throughout the year. Travelers can expect clearly defined seasons: hot and humid summers give way to cool, occasionally cloudy winters, creating a unique atmosphere for strolls through China's famous tea plantations.

The overall character of the weather in the region is defined by high humidity and frequent mists, which give the local mountains a mystical appearance. Despite the change of seasons, winters remain fairly mild without extreme frosts, making the city an attractive destination to visit at any time, provided you are prepared for the variability of the subtropical sky.

The temperature regime in Yushan varies from a mild chill to tropical heat. The hottest months are traditionally July and August, when the thermometer confidently crosses the +31°C mark. During this period, China experiences true summer heat, which, combined with high humidity, creates a sauna effect.

Winter in the region arrives in December and lasts until February, with January considered the coldest month. However, there is no need to fear harsh frosts: the average daytime temperature is around +10...+12°C, and nighttime lows rarely drop below +3°C. Snow is an exceptional phenomenon here, so winter walks remain quite comfortable.

An important feature of the local climate is the noticeable diurnal temperature variation, which averages 7–8°C. Even in warm October, when the air warms up to a pleasant +23°C during the day, it can cool down significantly to +15°C by evening, so light outerwear will not be out of place during evening strolls.

Precipitation plays a key role in shaping the natural landscape of Yushan. The rainy season here occurs in late spring and early summer, reaching its peak in May and June. In June, rainfall can exceed 400 mm, and the number of rainy days can reach 20 per month, which is worth considering when planning long outdoor excursions.

In contrast, autumn and early winter delight tourists with more stable and dry weather. October and December are the most comfortable months in this part of China: rains are much less frequent, and the sky clears more often, creating ideal conditions for sightseeing and walking.

The nature of precipitation is mainly heavy showers in summer and drizzling rain during the winter period. Snow falls very rarely in the city due to above-freezing temperatures, so an umbrella or a quality raincoat remains a mandatory accessory for a trip in any season, protecting you not only from moisture but also from the sudden whims of subtropical nature.

When packing for Yushan, it's best to follow the principle of layering. For a summer trip (from June to August), choose clothing made from natural, "breathable" fabrics such as cotton or linen to better handle the humid heat. Don't forget high-quality sunscreen, a hat, and a reliable raincoat, as downpours in China can begin suddenly.

If your visit is planned for the winter months, prepare for cool evenings. Despite mild daytime temperatures, the air cools down to +3...+4°C at night in December and January, so a warm sweater, jacket, and scarf will be very useful. For walks along mountain trails and through nature parks, comfortable waterproof shoes with good grip are essential.

In any season, you should have a compact umbrella and repellent in your arsenal, especially if you plan to spend a lot of time outdoors. It is also useful to carry a light windbreaker or cardigan: due to diurnal temperature swings and active air conditioning in transport, they may be needed even in the height of summer.
