Jiangshan, located in Zhejiang Province, features a typical subtropical monsoon climate. This part of China is characterized by four distinct seasons: from mild, blooming springs to hot, humid summers, and from golden, cool autumns to bracing winters.

The year here can be divided into two key periods. From May to September, the rainy season lasts, bringing high humidity and cloud cover influenced by oceanic air masses. The period from October to April is considered a relatively dry season with more stable weather. Spring and autumn are recognized as the most comfortable times to visit, when temperatures are most favorable for long walks and sightseeing.

The temperature range in Jiangshan throughout the year is quite broad: from winter lows around +3–5°C to summer peaks exceeding +34°C. Winters in the city are cool and damp; the lowest temperatures occur in January, when nighttime readings can drop to zero, although daytime figures usually remain around +11°C.

Summer brings real heat to the region. In July and August, average daytime temperatures stay around +33–35°C, and due to high humidity, it feels significantly hotter. During this period, nights offer little relief, remaining warm (around +25°C). Spring and autumn are transitional phases with the mildest conditions, as the air gradually warms from +14°C in March to a comfortable +22–26°C in May and September.

An interesting feature is the diurnal temperature variation. During the cold season, the difference between day and night can be 10–15 degrees, while in summer this range narrows due to thick cloud cover and humid air that retains heat throughout the night.

Jiangshan receives a significant amount of precipitation, which is characteristic of the subtropics of eastern China. The bulk of the moisture falls between May and September—during this time, the city receives up to 70% of its annual rainfall. The wettest month is traditionally June, with about 357 mm of precipitation, and the number of rainy days can reach twenty.

Summer rains often take the form of intense downpours and thunderstorms caused by monsoon circulation. From July to August, there is also a possibility of typhoons bringing heavy moisture. In contrast, autumn (especially October) is considered the driest and sunniest time of year, when rainfall is minimal and the sky remains clear more often.

Winter months are characterized by moderate humidity. Rain during this time often resembles a light drizzle, and total precipitation in January and February is significantly lower than summer levels. Snow in Jiangshan is a rare occurrence, but during the coldest periods of winter, it can briefly decorate the city landscapes with a white blanket.

When packing for Jiangshan, keep the season and the region's high humidity in mind. For the summer months (June–August), lightweight clothing made from natural, breathable fabrics such as cotton or linen is the ideal choice. Be sure to bring a high-quality folding umbrella or a compact raincoat—tropical downpours can start suddenly. Also, don't forget sunglasses, SPF cream, and insect repellent, as their activity increases during the humid period.

If your trip is planned for winter (December–February), pack a warm coat, sweaters, and closed shoes. Despite the absence of severe frost, the cold can feel sharper due to high humidity. In the transitional seasons—spring and autumn—it's best to follow the principle of layering: a combination of T-shirts, light jumpers, and windbreakers will allow you to easily adapt to temperature changes throughout the day.
