Az Zubayr is located in a tropical desert climate zone, making it one of the hottest regions on the map of Iraq. The city is influenced by arid desert landscapes, yet its proximity to the Persian Gulf brings a specific high humidity that significantly affects how the temperature feels.

Seasonality here is very pronounced: the summer period is characterized by extreme heat, while the winter months offer mild and comfortable conditions for visiting. Shoulder seasons are short, but it's during this time that the city transforms, gradually transitioning from winter chill to intense summer heat.

A hallmark of the local weather is the consistency of clear days; however, travelers should be prepared for the fact that even without rain, air humidity can exceed 90%. This creates a unique microclimate where temperature readings are supplemented by the palpable influence of the nearby gulf.

Temperature patterns in Az Zubayr are characterized by significant annual and daily fluctuations. In the summer months, especially July and August, the city becomes one of the hottest spots on the planet: daytime temperatures regularly exceed +47°C, and at peak moments can even reach +50°C. This is a time of dry, extreme heat when being outdoors in the middle of the day becomes a real challenge.

Winter brings long-awaited relief. From December to February, daytime temperatures stay at a comfortable level around +20°C, creating ideal conditions for tourism. However, one should consider the cool nights, when the mercury can drop to +8...+10°C, and in rare cases, even more significant cold snaps are possible.

Shoulder seasons, such as April and October, are considered the most favorable times for a trip. In April, the air warms up to a pleasant +30...34°C, while nights remain refreshing. A key feature of the climate is the sharp daily temperature swings: in summer, the difference between the daytime high and the nighttime low can be up to 15–20°C, which requires travelers to choose their clothing carefully.

Precipitation in Az Zubayr is rare, with an average annual volume of only about 150 mm. Most of the moisture falls between November and March, when the region comes under the influence of Atlantic cyclones. You don't need to worry about snow here: even on the coldest winter nights, temperatures don't drop low enough for it to form.

November is considered the wettest month (about 50 mm of precipitation), followed by December and January. Rains during this time are usually short-lived but intense downpours. For visiting Az Zubayr during the summer (June–August), it is critically important to choose light, loose clothing made of natural materials such as cotton or linen. Light colors will help reflect the sun's rays, and a wide-brimmed hat, high-quality sunglasses, and high-SPF sunscreen will be your essential companions. Avoid dark colors, which quickly accumulate heat.

A winter wardrobe (December–February) should be based on the principle of layering. Although pleasant warmth persists during the day in Iraq, evenings can be chilly, so a light jacket, windbreaker, or thick cardigan will come in very handy. For shoulder seasons, it is also recommended to have a light scarf or shawl—it provides excellent protection from both the bright sun and the dusty winds typical of desert regions.

Regardless of the season, be sure to bring comfortable closed-toe shoes and a large water bottle (at least 2 liters) to stay hydrated. Given the dry air in summer and humidity in winter, moisturizing lip balm and hand cream will be useful. You should add electrolytes to your travel first-aid kit to compensate for mineral loss, as well as remedies for heatstroke.
